Octavia RS is posessed !!!

A week or two ago, the passenger front window mechanism chewed itself up. I took off the internal panels to find that the wire cables of the mechanism were broken, so I ordered and replaced the window regulator assembly.

All went fine after fitting the new regulator and the window behaved normally until Saturday, when it started acting really strangely. From the drivers side, pressing the passenger window button "Down" worked fine, until you released the button - it started to raise itself in small steps until it closed fully. Another time it went all the way down, but pushing the button"Up" to close the window - nothing happened. The only way to get the window to close was to press the button "Down" again, and sure enough the window came back up.

While all of this weirdness was going on, the central locking was behaving strangely also. I brought the dog out for before going to bed, and found that the alarm was chirping (quietly), and all four windows were down and all locks up!

I managed to get at the door internals on Sunday, disconnected and re-connected all cables, cleared all fault codes (all 17 of them ). What I am left with:
1. Passenger window works fine from passenger door window switch.
2. Passenger window will work by pressing button on drivers side "Down" only.
3. Central locking: Locking the car from the keyfob locks all doors, but does not make the indicators flash or the alarm chirp. To make these happen, the lock button has to be pressed another two times. Unlocking the doors seems to work fine.
4. There are two fault codes remaining (dont have the numbers to hand). One points towards the drivers side window regulator switch, and the other is a fault in the Can Gateway.

I'm going to try getting my hands on another Octy window switch to see if mine is fubared. Hopefully it's a dodgy switch, and nothing more sinister. I will post the fault code numbers when I get a chance.

Re: Octavia RS is posessed !!!

Could be the central locking controller / convenience module. You may have to replace that if vagcom is showing 17 faults

Re: Octavia RS is posessed !!!

I left the car into the dealers today.

Apparently, the problems are not as a result of passenger window regulator being replaced. Service manager said that the central convenience unit in the drivers door has got water damaged during the recent heavy rain, and will need to be replaced. Apparently, the parts in question are on back order - so it seems there is demand for these parts. I wonder why???

In Ireland, we only get a 2 year warranty (unlike 3 years in the UK). I am pretty p***ed off at the moment. I have thoroughly enjoyed both of my Octys, but with the parts cost in excess of €500 + VAT + labour being mentioned (after spending approx. €180 two weeks ago on the window regulator), it's turning into an expensive month, especially as I got engaged last weekend and purchased a ring for my fiancee.

Re: Octavia RS is posessed !!!

you could possibly make an attempt to dry out the module , and then test it to see if its working any better , if its working as it should , just apply sealant to anywhere the water has got in , just a thought anyway

Re: Octavia RS is posessed !!!

The module has been dry for the last few days. I have scanned it with VAG Com and 3 faults keep coming back pointing to the drivers door. The door LED is on fully, which according to the dealer, usually means the convenience unit is knackered.

He is going to try the goodwill route with Skoda, but will have to wait as the parts are on back order.

Re: Octavia RS is posessed !!!

I have the same problem (see post http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-i...roblem/100921/) and wondered how you got on with the goodwill route.

Your thoughts would be very welcome.
