| I'm going to have to replace both front and rear brake discs and pads in the near future on my Octy II 2.0 TDi Elegance hatch. Out of interest I'm on about 49k miles - is this typical. Option 1 is to replace with OEM or equivalent after-market parts. I have a mate who is going to help me fit them. Does anyone have part numbers and recommendations for where to get a good price other than just going to the local stealers. Option 2 is to upgrade either discs or pads. It will probably one or the other - which will give the best value for money in terms of improved braking performance? Any recommendations for what I should do and typical prices? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

| Try JKM in Portsmouth for Ferodo DS2500 (I think). I've used them in a Fabia and my wife's Doblo and they are a good upgrade for stronger performance.

| There are none listed on their online shop page for the 2.0 TDi Octy, but I've asked them if they do them so will see what I get back

| It was the dealer that did the MOT a few weeks ago that said it needed new discs. Think I best have a closer look! Anyone got part numbers and supplier recommendations?

| OEM Parts - Front - 288x25 5/112 PCD Pads - 1K0 698 151 E Disks - 1K0 615 301 T Rear - 260x12 5/112 PCD Pads - 1K0 698 451 G Disks - 1K0 615 601 L Rear - 255x10 5/112 PCD Pads - 1K0 698 451 J Disks - 1K0 615 601 K There is as you can see a choice for the rears. Given that all of the numbers are 1K which is the Golf V chassis I would say that you'll have a pretty wide choice.

| Thanks Stu - you're a gentleman! Can the rear size be checked from the chassis number, or is it a random thing that needs a physical check?

| They didn't show up with your chassis number - the fronts did though. My money would be on the bigger ones as they are smaller than the vRS ones. Only sure fire way is to ask a dealer or measure them. They may actually have a part number on the outer egde if it's not too corroded.

| Should add the fronts are listed as having wear indicators.

| As a 'rule of thumb' these days I find, from the experience of running our Company Cars, that a set of discs lasts for two sets of pads. From the experience here, seems like 45 - 50,000 miles is par for front pads so discs ought to go to the next change at around 90,000 miles.

| I'd expect so as a lot of Golf/Leon/Octavia parts are interchangeable.

| Plenty of garages are far too eager to replace the disks and will say you need to do this if there's even a slight lip worn on them. If you ask them what the minimum thickness is though , they tend to get all evasive and won't give an answer

| Just get OE ones from GSF... my last set of 312mm discs were 68quid from them so 288 will be much cheaper... theres a shop in trafford park.. they should be able to get all the details from your reg number
