| Briskodian | Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Hello! Just bought a '99 SLX TDI estate, and noticed the passenger-side air vent on the centre console (to the left of the hazard light) isn't working - the dial for opening/closing the vents isn't in connection with any part to move it. Does anyone have an idea how much a replacement part will be, and how easy it would be to pop in a replacement part, bearing in mind I'm a complete idiot when it comes to practical matters...? Look forward to hearing from people! Sidney |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Might be able to fix it if the rod has just come off. The whole assembley just pops out of the dash with a suitable plastic lever. |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent I busted one of those flaps on my previous Octy (dont ask) It was fixed by drilling a tiny hole where the plastic peg snapped off, super gluing a small pin into the hole and then cutting the pin to the same length as all the other plastic pegs. Reassembled and it worked a treat.

| Briskodian | Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Cheers for the quick response - it's appreciated. With regards to popping the assembly out, I trust I can do this without worrying about disconnecting anything from power? If so, I'll have a quick look as soon as possible (ie a lunchbreak at work), otherwise I'll have to wait until a weekend in case I mess things up proper! |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Just lever it out with a large flat blade, tape it up though so you don't damage the surrounding trim. A full replacement is around £25-30, it really is a work of art though.

| Briskodian | Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Finally got the vent sorted - but I got completely stiffed in the process. See http://www.briskoda.net/forums/skoda...08/#post781815 for more info... That'll teach me to trust a dealership! |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Just prise out the vent gently and you can see for yourself the damage.I did mine today and it wasn't just the little pin that had broken it was the mechanism that moves all the slats that had snapped. I think it must be with people pushing the vents down instead of using the slider it just don't work on octys |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Can I not just bend out the slat instead of removing the whole vent? It's only one slat that doesn't move, the other still work. |

| Jelly Mould | Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent Keep the old vent if it still has some working slats, so when another one breaks you can just replace the slat. I have done lots of them this way. |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent From the look of it, if I can get the slat out, then I think I can glue a pin on to it and put it back and hopefully it will rotate with the other slats, I think removing the whole vent maybe a bit over the top. Do the slats just bend out, don't want to break anything else getting it out? The car is due it's 60k service a week tomorrow, so may just get dealer to sort it if I can't. |

| Re: Cost of replacing a dodgy air-vent This has reminded me, I've got one duff slat on the passenger window side. Will try getting the vent out and take a closer look. Not a massive issue, but it annoying nonetheless! Steve
