| Re: Mpg At 80-85 On the motorway with the cruise set on 85 mph my mpg fluctuates between 60 and 25 mpg depending on the gradient. I tend to average about 40ish. |

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 I've heard many times that Octavia vRS owners find their cars more economical at 80/85mph than 70mph. ![]()

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 Actually, I think thats true. Looking through the handbook for my vRS there is a graph of fuel consumption Vs speed for each gear. At 70 the curve is slightly higher than at 80, I think the lowest point is 85 - 90 mph. |

Considering the extra length of the gears it pulls incredibly well, 6th is not much use below 80, but it pulls strong from 100 to 0 on the speedometer! ![]()

The experience I have had with my car (which is unmodified) suggests that the faster I go the worse the fuel consumption becomes. Now I would be interested in hearing the physics on how a car can be more fuel efficient at 80-85 mph than it is at 70mph? (remember wind resistance increases logrithmically with speed) I presume that you are saying that the engine is more efficient at that particular engine speed (revs) but seeing the mk1 vRS hits its torque peak at 1950 rpm and given the figures I have got at 60 mph I think your claim would be hard to justify? | |

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 Has any one compared their speedo with a satnav? I was quite surprised. The speedo was at 80 and I was only doing 72 according to the satnav! Does this mean I can drive through speed camaras a bit faster? Unfortunatly not; up to 40MPH the speedo seems tobe spot on! ![]() |

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 I once had the misfortune of following the misses’ parents. We travelled 70miles cross-country, doing a max speed of 50. Apart from being bored out of my skull I managed 52mpg, I must admit I have never achieved this since. |

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 Well that’s what the puter in the car said. Like I said that was driving at 50 in 5th. And was only a 1 off. Over the last 2800 miles the car have averaged 33mpg. |

| Re: Mpg At 80-85 Well I tried this out last night in my completely standard vRS. Just taking rough figures to even out and gradient differences I was consistantly getting low 40's @ 70, high 30's to low 40's at 75 and high 30's @ 80 all on the speedo. I think 80 on the speedo is 74/75 on the sat nav IIRC. |
