Question Changing Side Light on 2006 Octavia

HI I'm new to the forum.
My hands are torn to bits, i've been trying to change the O/S side light bulb, I even took the fuel fillter off!!
I can get the bulb housing to rotate in the light but cannot get the dam thing out. Has any one else managed to do this yet.

Any advice other than take it to the garage would be apreciated

cheers

Pop the headlight out, takes about two seconds.

Undo the plastic nut (by hand) on the back and pull the lever all the way out that sits just in where the grill would have been before you opened the bonnet.

No tools reqired.

Use long nose pliers to pull out the little black bulbholder

Ahhhh so THATS what the little plastic levers are for. I did wonder how you get to the lamps when I was under the bonnet earlier today, couldn't see much evidence of an intercooler either.

intercooler is at the front, in front of the radiator but behind the condensor iirc.

You cut your hands to ribbons but once you get the knack of it you can remove and replace the healight units in just a minute or 2.

Re: Changing Side Light on 2006 Octavia

If you havn't worked it out already, unscrew plastic nut (not in picture but where arrow A is pointing) and pull lever B in direction of arrow. Unclip wiring loom which will leave the headlight assembly free to remove.

All the bulbs are now very easy to replace except the sidelights. This is a real pig of a job and you will almost certainly need two pairs of hands and some very thin bull nose pliers!.

Incidently, the red arrows point to the screws which adjust the headights, top one adjusts side to side and the bottom adjusts up and down IIRC.

That'll be why I couldn't see it, it's somewhat cramped down there and the intercooler used to be in front of the wheel arch IIRC.

Re: Changing Side Light on 2006 Octavia

Makes sense to spray the bottom release/retaining mechanism with WD 40. Headlight is an awful lot easier to get out subsequently!

Incidentally - my L/H headlight unit is equipped with a little lever which brings down a shutter to blank of the assymetrical part of the beam when motoring on the opposite side, on the continent, but the R/H headlight unit has no such adjustment........... Odd!

Cheers guy, and as for Makefish with the annotated image that was far more than I expected. All lights working on the car again.
