  1. Thanks for all the suggestions. The old fitters cure worked, if all else fails hit it. Of course it had to be a bit more technical than that so Gilroom's method worked. Once it was open, I gave a generous squirt of liquid grease into every orifice and it's still working but I have a new lock unit on order via my friendly local garage.
  2. The front passenger door won't unlock either with the fob or the console switches, so how do I open it to access the lock mechanism? Is it possible to remove the trim with the door closed?
  3. I need to access the reversing sensor module located on the left, rear wing. I've removed the 3 screws in the baggage hooks and found 3 clips on the rear boot pillar. In another post, I've read that there are 3 more screws somewhere but I can't find them. I've also removed the rear sill cover which is clipped to the side panel. Is brute force needed or is it just a matter of technique?
  4. I saw the same clip - couldn't hear them either. Just hoping my local, friendly garages' VCDS can find the problem
  5. I bought one and tried it in all 4 locations but the fault remains. I've just learnt to live with it for now but may have to get a garage to see if the fault is elsewhere.
  6. I've used a dual outlet with USB charging point mounted under the radio. A short run to the fuse panel with a 5amp fuse and I've linked to the radio ground wire. It's neat and works well.
  7. That's just the job! Even after all the help from you all, I wasn't looking forward to taking the fuse panel out. I'm not as flexible as I was so it could have been a long, painful job with lots of swearing and drinks breaks. Adaptor ordered, should arrive mid week. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks Guys! Very useful pics. According to my handbook, 40 is the rear wiper fuse (10 amp) and 41 is not assigned but is on the ignition. Just need to get the right socket insert and I'll have a go. Cheers. :cocktail: Mike
  9. How do I gain access to the back of the interior fuse box? I want to add ignition controlled power for a dash cam and GPS and fuse #40 appears to be unused.
  10. I've just taken the bumper off and removed and cleaned all the sensors. It was dry and just a bit dusty inside and all the electrical connections were dry, clean and bright. I'm having problems finding new sensors at a sensible price. I bought a pair from E-bay that were supposed to fit but didn't. The only genuine ones I can find in the UK are over £50 each. A bit much if the fault is elsewhere. The Part number is 5JO 919 275 so if anyone can find them cheaper or can suggest a possible different fault I'd be grateful.
  11. After the car has been in the garage overnight, the car starts normally but when I select reverse, the system beeps normally and the car symbol on the radio shows but after a couple of seconds, there is a longer, higher pitched beep and the car symbol disappears. The reversing lights work normally but there is no audible or visual reverse sensor warning. Usually, after driving for a few miles, the system starts to work normally until the next time it's left overnight. Is it possible I have a gremlin in my garage that comes out at night and messes with the car? A wiring diagram of the system would be useful.
  12. Is the rear wiper motor the same as the Fabia, Octavia etc?
  13. Thanks Skipp, I'll have a go when it stops raining Sorry to hear about all your other problems. I had a 2003 Passat with 250k on it that was fine until the ABS controller died. It still amazes me that electrical problems are relatively rare.
  14. I have a similar problem but mine is intermittent. It's fine for a while, but occasionally needs a push to start so I'm guessing that it's a bad spot on the commutator. I want to have a look to see if I can clean it up but can't see how to remove the cover. I need advice as I'm well aware of how easy it is to break a plastic retaining tab.
