  1. Hi all, Here's a new one on me, hopefully someone could shed some light on the situations: I have a 65 plate fabia and my head unit/infotainment has generally been absolutely fine. I've been connecting my Samsung s8 absolutely fine for over 1 year now, not a single problem - until this week. I connected up my phone and instead of saying "Samsung android will be connected via android auto" it says "Samsung android will be connected via mirrorlink". It does, but that's not what I want at all. I don't know why it's changed, I haven't changed anything. The settings still say preferred option of connection is android auto but yet still goes to mirrorlink, which I have never used. Tried different usb original cables, uninstalled and reinstalled android auto on my phone too. Nothing. Adding to this another random querk as of this week is that if I am listening to the radio and my s/s clicks in at traffic lights for example, when I press the clutch to move and the s/s goes off and turns the engine over- the radio station changes! So random. Anyone any ideas what could be going on? Factory reset the best option?
  2. I have an immaculate 65 plate for sale if you're still interested... ad is on auto trader also but here is a pic and can PM me. Thanks
  3. Yeah I'd recommend it on the whole. A bit buggy but works fine. To get footage just take the sd card out and upload to computer. Easy. Definitely hardcore it in
  4. It's ok, I have had some SD card trouble - make sure it's a genuine sd card from maplin not off the internet, however genuine the shop. Also lost an SD card down the central heating vents when taking it out once as it's from the underside....keep the flaps downwards when removing sd card - top tip. the clock doesn't keep to the time, always 1 hour ahead, settings doesn't remember when i change it. still for me, it's worth it - havign 2 shots is more peace of mind for me. so many dashcam vids of people being hit in the rear and not actually seeing anything but the front view - doesn't prove anything. not total HD quality but captures what you need. attached pics is where I have placed it - i don't find the screen a distraction, I found it hard to hide away and also be able to see and have a view.... strongly recommend hardwiring.
  5. I have tried every routine under the sun, getting in - ignition- waiting for various lengths of time, warming up the car for 10 mins etc, done it all lots with many combinations of how to do things. Went to dealer and had to have radio software "updated". Worked fine then on for 2 weeks, thought I had solved it, then back to zero again. total ballache i have given up on. for a new car it should work perfectly, regardless of make and price. it's a disgrace. shame on skoda.
  6. if your car was built before week 22 of 2015, it will not have smartlink. my car was built afterwards in summer of 2015 and i have carplay. It is not possible to retrofit carplay or smartlink. Some people who have complained to the skoda hierarchy had a kenwood sat nav retrofitted as a diplomatic solution, after a lot of wrangling. There are some other threads about the use of smartlink and mirrorlink. quite a saga. My car was fine until about 9 months into the new car, since then I have had smartlink problems non-stop. rarely connects to my phone without issue, using sat nav when i need to doesn't happen. spotify is just not worth it as doesn't work. Skdoa released this whole bolero/radio unit system without it being ready, that's the crux of it. They wanted it out as fast as possible regardless of problems it might cause the customer. I won't be having a skoda after my pcp ends, ill just give it back and start again with another car make. In my view, after having it now for 16 months, there are so many shortcuts and "cost cutting" measures put in place that it makes the car feel cheap - which it isn't! and as for the radio probelms, skoda don't give care so ill just hang on until i can break from them. should be better car, should be better service when people find them out.
  7. There is a thread somewhere from a few months back about how to hardwire a nextbase (use search bar) dashcam. I followed it to the T and it's been perfect. Photos etc show exactly where to earth it.. quite an easy job.
  8. HI all, wondering if you can help.... Currently 16 months into a pcp on my fabia SEL 110 with a good few options. Overall a good car, a few annoyances that i hate but overall I'm happy. However, the arrival of our baby means now it all really is too small with all the baby gear that goes with him. Want to upgrade to an Octavia (or another bigger model), as the boot space is appealing and generally a bigger car is needed for car seat etc. I was thinking about contacting skoda myself and maybe talk about "upgrading". Without getting into exact prices, I've paid around £3000 of the £15k owed. Just wondering how I should go about it when talkign to them and what model I should go for generally. The 20 year old in me loves the Octy VRS but the 30+ year old in me needs to be level headed lol, more comfort in a Superb but they look ****. My concern about it all is that I go in, look at a bigger car and then they bend me over a barrel and stitch me up with maths! lol
  9. i think on some platforms it works better than others. I have contacted Spotify - really didn't seem that fussed and suggested I contact bolero or whoever actually makes the MIB unit/skoda - they pretty much washed their hands of it. it will never be solved I don't think, and I haven't got the patience to nag for years already done enough.
  10. vc-10 - haven't forgotton will get the software version and get back to you. over a week or so into updated MIB unit and it works fine now (so far). sat nav not an issue at all. The only thing that does constantly screw up - SPOTIFY. just too buggy. its an app thing not a skoda/mib unit thing. just doesn't work that well end of. won't load sometimes etc but the rest now works fine - vast improvement. shame spotify sucks.
  11. Ps - Spotify was appalling before and although it's only been 24 hours I've had not a single glitch or problem
  12. Got the car back from the garage. They sent off my video footage of it not working to skoda and they suggested giving the head unit an update. They said it was out of date. They have done so and since doing it has been flawless and much quicker - not just with smartlink working ok, but response to touch seems to be quicker and instant when before I did have a split second of lag. Let's hope it's done finally.
  13. Expecting my first soon, recently bought an ISO family fix two way and it fits solidly, but as stated just about manageable. Adding to this, the fabia had to go in to have my smartlink investigated and they gave me an Octavia as courtesy for a few days and it fits much better. Obviously a bigger car but leg room on all seats with isofix and baby seat is massively superior. Fabia is just too small
  14. taken my car in to have this issue investigated and they cant find anything wrong. They've seen the video evidence I've shown them so they know its not right, but annoyingly, when i tried to demo the error to the technician it worked fine! they are escalating it up to SKODA as a whole and are calling me back tmw. As I have stated I am not happy but also acknowledge they haven't found anything. Just a weird issue all round. I know i am not the only one so SKODA hopefully will help me out under warranty. I hope SKODA would, with no questions, just replace the head unit or retrofit a satnav (my primary need for phone connection) without a quibble - Can't imagine the SKODA service will be that helpful but you never know!
