  1. Hi Folks I'm thinking of buying a Kodiaq SE, but can anyone tell me the tyre size on the 18 inch Elbrus wheels? The configurator gives a tyre size of 205/55 R16 94W, which is clearly wrong. My current Scout TSI has 55 ratio tyres which are fine on good tarmac, but give a hard ride on the rough rural roads around here. In contrast, my winter tyres are 60 profile, and give a much more comfortable ride, so I'd be keen to use a 60 profile tyre if possible. Also, does anybody know if it's possible to order a Skoda with smaller-than-standard wheels. ie could I order a Kodiaq SE [which comes with 18 inch wheels] with the 17 inch wheels on the Kodiaq S ........although I wonder if the 65 profile tyres on the Kodiaq S would noticeably affect handling Thanks for your opinion
  2. Thanks everyone, for your help with this. After copious WD40 on the hinge and spring assembly, plus a new Bosch wiper, it cleans just fine. I wonder if the Bosch wiper is just more flexible than the Skoda version, so a spring which is weakening with age can press the centre of the blade against the glass better. Perhaps you should takes your Halfords blade back to exchange for a Bosch version, Rab-k?
  3. Thanks, everyone, for your replies. My blades are 16 inch. I've ordered Silver's Bosch blades from Europarts, as suggested by Mike. I'll also use WD40 on the hinge, and let you know how it goes in a few days. and....Merry Christmas to all
  4. Hello folks Can anyone help me with a minor but annoying problem? After working perfectly for 5 years, the rear wiper on my Scout has stopped cleaning a large patch in the centre of the rear screen, approx. 6 inches round. I bought a new blade from a Skoda dealer, but it is exactly the same. The spring holding the arm against the screen does not seem to be noticeably weak. Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening, and what I could do about it? Thanks for your advice
  5. Hi Sarge It has used very little oil....maximum half a litre top-up per 10K
  6. Hi Everyone. I’m just relating recent events with my car in the hope that the info will help some-one. For 4 years I’ve had a 61 plate Scout with the 1.8 TSI CDAA engine. I originally planned to keep the car long-term as it has features that are not easy to find with the current crop of new cars ie petrol manual 4x4, a real handbrake and a spare wheel. It has always been a nice engine to drive, but I’ve been keeping an eye on this forum and wondering whether I should sell the car or get the timing chain tensioner changed. From the information on the forum, I reckoned my car had the 3rd version of the tensioner. This was only fitted for a few months, and presumably Skoda changed to the current fourth version because it was theoretically better, and not because engines had failed within their first few months. I therefore thought there was a good chance it would be OK. However, a couple of weeks ago, there was a loud grating cum rattling sound at start-up. The engine then ran normally to get me home, but I decided the tensioner would now have to be changed if I wanted to sleep at night. Autotechnica at Hull had previously been mentioned on the forum, and they were very helpful and changed the chain, tensioner and cover for £560, which isn’t too bad if you compare with the cost of changing a cambelt two or three times over the life of a car. The car has done 57K, and the latest part numbers, as fitted by Autotechnica, are 06K109467K [tensioner] and 06K109158AD [chain]
  7. Hi Folks Just joined, so saying hello. I have a 61 reg Octavia Scout 1.8 TSI Having been a long-term Subaru owner, I changed to Skoda 3 years ago when the local Subaru dealer changed to Skoda. He then closed down within 6 months, so nearest dealer now an hour away! Like the car, but a few niggles, so hope to be picking your brains in due course.
