  1. Yes it is normal I`m afraid. You do have to push the button every time you start up to select the mode
  2. Yes in ECO mode you can but coasting doesn`t work below 10mph or as soon as you touch the brake pedal (on mine doesn`t) but it would be nice to coast to a halt while you applying the brakes. If I just slightly touck the brake pedal I can manage to keep the car coasting but it`s hard work though I heard putting an automatic gearbox into Neutral while the car still moving is a bad idea. I have no clue what damage could cause and I don`t want to know. But it raise a question in me to say, if your car coasting in ECO mode, is it not the same as when you move the selector in Neutral and let the car roll?
  3. Sometimes when I stop at the traffic lights I put it in Neutral after the engine stops then let off the brake pedal and wait until I have to leave then brake on - shift in - go away
  4. Same here... 1, I find it quite annoying especially when you are in a start/stop traffic when you stop the car, engine stops then you take your foot off the brake couple of seconds later, car starts and moves straight off like when you are in a slingshot (OK not like that but you get what I mean) then you have to hit the brake again avoid crashing into the car in front.. Didn`t notice this when I stop for more than 10-15 seconds so could it be the software thinks that the car needs moving quickly after a few second stop and it`s just catching you by surprise? I just turn it off unless I can see that the traffic will stop for a while. 2. I don`t normally wait until the car moves itself, I just step on the accelerator and the car moves off as soon as I touch the pedal. Sometimes smoothly but sometimes a bit jerky.. the car moves off then it feels like the clutch disengages for a friction of a second then it moves again. No matter which driving mode I`m in I learnt to live with it by now
  5. Do you release the handbrake first or the foot brake? Happened to me a few times when I took my foot off the brake pedal then released the handbrake and the car started to roll backwards. After applying the foot brake, all was good as you described. It looks like using handbrake itself doesn`t have any connection with the hill start function so if you use only that it will not keep the car still. I hope Škoda did not find anything wrong with it though
  6. This was a long trip through Europe last year. The next comes in July and I can`t wait
  7. If you look on this page you can see the part numbers you`d need to make it look like factory built but I personally think it`s too much hassle and I`m also not too sure where you could get the parts other than from the dealer https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2014-753/8/863-863060/#14
  8. I could only manage to put 3 large suitcase like yours and that was it. No matter how I tried - flat, upright, sideways - just didn`t work and I ended up using the rear seat for the 4th luggage. However I did leave the parcelshelf on and without that you might be able to fit all4 in. Or perhaps your in-laws could use 2 smaller case instead of 1 big and it gives you more ways to play around in the boot.
  9. Check your headlamps if the screws are tight enough, maybe that`s causing the rattle. I found mine loose however I didn`t notice any bounces going over bumps before I did it
  10. Yours a 2.0 litre diesel and theirs is 1.6 I drive a vRS TDI too and I can`t get my mpg above 55mpg no matter how hard I try ( I`m not really trying though )
  11. Hi all Sorry for the long story. My vRS been serviced yesterday where I bought the car. After 6-7 months I noticed the coolant level has dropped, I thought it`s normal so I topped it up and left it. Went on a long trip and when I came back I`ve checked again and it was below the minimum level but the warning light was not on yet. Went to the dealer and bought some coolant and asked them what to do. They said top it up and keep your eyes on it. I brought the car in for an early service because I`m off to Europe from this week and I would`ve overrun the mileage. Anyway I told them to have a look if there is any leaks anywhere so they`ve put it on the list. They called me midday yesterday to say a pressure test has been by the mechanics by putting the coolant system on 2 bar for 1 hour ( which is a lot!!! - said the guy on the phone) but no leaks at all. I was relieved so when I went to pick the car up. I have a dashcam and I was curious how the pressure test was done so I started watching the records. This is where the main story starts, They took my car to the workshop where the ramp was for about 10 minutes then drove it out park it up then left the engine running. 5 minutes later some guys jumps in and lays on the throttle revving the car for 5 minutes ( it was painful to hear ) then let it idle for another 5 minutes and stop. The bonnet was open all the time but not one person touched it. The dash is connected to the rear wipers so it is only records constantly when the ignition is on and go to sleep mode after 3 minutes when off. So the question is should I complain straight away? I don`t even think the oil has been changed at all or the air filter or the pollen filter which was due. I didn`t have time to check yet but I`m sure you need to take the glovebox out to be able to change the pollen filter... Can this constant high revving damage the engine at all or anything else? Thanks for reading
  12. I would try to machine polish first tbh. it looks to be a PITA to remove
  13. Hi Steve What was the reason to leave it with the garage for inspection for 4 days? Funny but once I did manage to stall the car and I have DSG too. I was on a slightly steep hill crawling in slow traffic using the brake to slow down and release when we moved. I didn`t stop the car to standstill so I was doing 5-6mph and I saw the rev dropping below 1000rpm and just went even when I tried to accelerate. I was surprised but the car did start straight away after I`ve done the excercise.. put the gearbox in P then turn off the ignition then back again, start and put it in D and I was off.
