  1. Think I'll go for a pneumatic as I already have a big air compressor. They offer much more torque and are cheaper than getting a cordless and then getting batteries . All my other tools are Metabo but the Metabo cordless impact driver is a 'bit' too expensive to say the least! Of course I'll need to budget in an impact socket set....
  2. Thanks for the reply. Yes it'll be lifted on a trolley jack and then set on axle stands. I will look at an impact driver. I was concerned that I might need it but wasn't wanting to have to buy 'another' tool just for that 😢. As I have a large working garage and power might a corded driver be more powerful and cheaper? Any thoughts on brands? Regards, Mark
  3. Hi Folks I'm going to order brake parts for my girlfriend's Yeti (1.2L 105 BHP version). I have the electronic workshop manual and I can see I need FS-III discs 280mm diameter, 22mm thickness but I need a question answered on the pads. I'll just be doing the front axle. I wish to buy ATe parts (which get good reviews) discs and the pads set that includes the 1 wear indicator. On the Autodoc web site the state the pads as 19,6mm thickness. In the Skoda workshop manual say they take about 14mm pad thickness without the supporting plate. Can I assume that the Autodoc specs are the width with the supporting plate - which would appear logical ? Any help in choosing a simple not too cheap nor expert grade piston compression tool would be appreciated. Any other specific tools needed? I don't have an impact driver is that essential for this job? Thanks in advance. Mark
  4. That was a site (haven't used before ) that ships all over (to the UK as well) and the shipping was cheaper than to France. Might be worth noting in case you need a part? Point noted that the replacement part will be disconnected and should help me figure it out. The rear door of her car gets as used as the front as our two girls travel in the back.
  5. Hmmm.. My feeling was this too. I couldn't really see properly inside the rubber part as I was unable to disconnect the plug at the main body part (how does that connecter come apart?). I took a photo of the sticker attached to the loom so I could get a quote on the part. www.skoda-parts.com came up with the reference number and quoted 61,47€ plus 15€ delivery - not an excessive price in the car parts world. If I can find out how that connector comes apart I'll have to take the gamble I guess. Thanks for your kind reply.
  6. Hi folks, My girlfriend's Yeti has an issue. She has a 1.2 TFSi manual bought new in January 2011. It has done 86,000km. Okay the issue: The rear offside (LHD car) door locking has stopped working. So has the electric window operation and the 'door open' does not show in the car binnacle display. I have read the posts on the wiring loom splits inside the rubber grommet running from the body to the car door. Thinking this might have been the problem I removed the rear door panel for a better look. I also undid the body/door grommet at both sides to examine the wiring. On the car body side of the grommet I saw a black connector that looked like it could be taken apart (I wanted to disconnect so as to be able to pull the wiring through towards the door ) but couldn't see how this disconnects. So unable to disconnect I peeled back the concertina rubber to examine as best as I could. As far as I could tell see there was no sign of split/broken wires So is there any other reason she might have this issue? I thought about the door control module? So need help on `maybe how to disconnect that black connecter' so as to pull the loom through to the door. Or what else to try? I don't want to just start buying bits to change out and try as that can get expensive. Thanks in advance for any ideas... Mark
  7. Just for info. My girlfriend's Yeti 1.2 TFSi Jan 2011 had this problem. I had thought the car had been consuming a bit of oil and then the car became a bit smelly in the interior due to oil fumes - didn't help the car sick daughter one bit! I had a look and some an oily mess on the mid-lower RHS of the engine block. The garage changed the aforementioned piece and the problem has been eliminated. My top tip: clean engine and engine bay area and then any oil or leak issues are revealed on a monthly basis when you have a quick look with a hand torch...
  8. Well for me the Skoda Karoq ticked the boxes, equipment choice, looks (acceptable), space, modern tech and overall price. None of the competitors mentioned offered the price versus spec that the Karoq promised. EXCEPT the bombshell - no petrol, auto 4wd..... Skoda were contacted but no reply back from them. Clearly they don't give a hoot..... Anyone been to the sales room to judge reaction to the question? Looked at those other examples quoted, Land Rover (QC a bit iffy), Volvo (liked the XC60 but here in France they only offer a diesel) - overall they are much more pricey when compared like for like. The Honda CRV received generally bad reviews from several sites - no doubt well built though. Just for curiosity and for fairness I had a look at the Suzuki Vitara that Fin69 seems to like - lit looked very 1990's agricultural, especially the interior , so that is off my search list.
  9. Agree that Car of the Year awards are rubbish - I'll leave you to like Suzuki products.... Anyway we are getting off the subject of the new Skoda Karoq and all that it might bring to the Skoda owners.......
  10. Exactly - no Suzuki on my list and their bikes wouldn't be either. No sure who would buy their uninteresting vehicles?
  11. Definitely confusing. A real shame that Skoda have let their customers down by offering a restricted engine/drive option. After all the Karoq is an SUV so it should have or be offered in 4wd across the engine range - or as a minimum in the higher powered petrol engine !
  12. Just looked at the Karoq configuarator on the German Skoda website and they also do not offer a 4wd DSG petrol version. WTF....??? I'll just have to tell the sales person who calls that the Karoq is off the menu. Wasted opportunity by Skoda..
  13. I'll be out too..... What are they playing at? Have they not seen the news about declining diesel sales? I'm not buying into a fuel type that will see me penalised or end up with high DPF or injector bills. I sent an email to Skoda to confirm this issue..
  14. I also looked at the latest released prices. Fed up with Audi option prices I was looking a buying a high spec Karoq rather than a A4. Looking at the prices I couldn't see a 4x4 petrol model. I hope there is an option for 4x4 as I do not want a diesel. The Kodiaq does not appeal to me due to the look and it also has a lame petrol engine range... It may have to be that stupidly expensive (When overpriced, necessary Audi options are added) A4 avant 2.0 TFSI quattro.
  15. Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought. In the end then a VAGCOM unit needs to be connected and the correct codes entered so that it will activate the bluetooth on the system. So are there any VAGCOM units that would work - without spending large sums on high grade professional units that go beyond my simple need to recode to make the Bluetooth module work with the steering wheel controls. I've seen some hand-held units with a display that are not expensive - of course they are made in China.
