  1. Copied from another thread as this thread appears more relevant I have been experiencing similar problems. I have had this car for 2 years when in March this year I took my 2007 petrol vRS in for its MOT. The guy doing the MOT rang me and said I needed two new rear tyres. They were worn through the rubber to expose the steel reinforcing and canvas on the inside edges. The nearside tyre was worse than the offside. So I had 2 new tyres put on the front and the part worn (6mm) tyres from the front put on the rear. I then took the car back to the dealer I had bought the car from. They got the wheel alignment checked/adjusted by a local specialist and put the issue down to pot holes. 3 months later I was aware of increased road noise checked the tyres again. There was evidence that the tyres were wearing in the same way. The dealer got revised settings from Skoda and sent it back to have the alignment done again. Confident that the problem was now fixed and I had "caught" it in time and the tyres were still legal, I put up with the road noise. The car went in for service 3/4 weeks ago and the tyre report didn't highlight any problems. On Friday I was aware that the tyre noise was increasing again. When I got home I inspected the tyres only to confirm my worst fears. The nearside rear tyre was still showing 1-2mm in places on the inner edge, but bald in patches and just starting to go through to the carcass. The only option was to replace both rear tyres on Saturday morning. I don't really know what to do next. I am almost at the point of trading the car in for another, but don't want to experience the same issues if I get another Octavia. I guess I need to talk to the dealer again! I bet the tyre fitters and 4 wheel alignment companies love Octavias:-)

  3. I was "lucky" enough to be able to have 89 for the day as a courtesy car! Drove very nicely on my daily commute from North Oxfordshire to Reading. Still only has 54k on the clock . At least my 7 year old thought it was cool, unlike my workmates!
  4. Well, I guess when you put it like that I want something pretty middle of the road. Then beyond that its personal choice. So thats it then. Toyo Proxes T1-R from Event Tyres. Now all I got to do is order them....I hope they have stock or I'll have to start all over again! There's just too much choice in this world!
  5. My 2009 vRS is in need of new tyres. Searching here has given me some pointers but I would be interested to hear peoples opinions based on the following:- I'm looking for 4 tyres 225/40 ZR18 92Y. Its currently wearing Michelin Pilot Exalto which all I can say is they were OK and were on the car when I got it. I am looking for the best price / performance / wear / noise balance bearing in mind I do mainly motorway miles (25 - 30k per year) When I had a MK1 vRS I favoured Toyo Proxes T1-R.getting 30k + out of a set In the running so far are Toyo Proxes T1-R @ £100 - £110 fitted Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas @ £117 - £128 Goodyear Eagle Asymetric 2 @ £127 - £135 Has anyone got experience of Vredestein Ultrac Cento or Vredestein Ultrac Vorti also both around £117. Kuhmo Hancook and Falkens keep getting mentioned, but how long will they last? Its all a bit confusing so any constructive info gratefully received.
  6. I thought you could all do with an update , even if its a bit belated. Wednesday 24th August at 8PM, the owner of the dealership delivered a courtesy car to my door. Probably about a 45 mile round trip. Well above the call of duty. Very impressed. Friday, 26th August at 8:30PM I got a call from the owner of the dealership to tell me the car was now fixed! They swapped the fuel pump over from a car that came in on part exchange. Fault still apparent on my car, not the part ex. They then swapped the fuel pressure regulator. Fault gone from my car but now very apparent on the part ex. Result! I returned the courtesy car on the Saturday morning to collect my car. "No charge" I was told. "That's all covered under the warranty. Here are your keys sir. Please let us know if you have any more trouble". The car hasn't missed a beat since. Praise where praise id due - Grey Gables Garage, Curbridge, Witney, Oxfordshire - I thank you.
  7. I have to say that I have no issue with the dealer and they are in the process of sorting out a car for me. They run 5 courtesy cars and all were booked out when my car arrived courtesy of the RAC. I'll wait to see what they have to say this afternoon.
  8. If that's the case then I can only tell you the symptoms and maybe deduce which it is. When I next speak to the dealer I will ask. The car starts without a problem and will happily tick over. It will pull away OK from cold. After a a short while when slowing for traffic or a junction with revs down to about 2,500 rpm the engine dies. It will start again by dropping the clutch or by turning the key off and on again. It is then difficult to keep running at low revs but is all but fine when pulling hard. Does this suggest the LPFP?
  9. Errr? Dunno. Do the above denote High Pressure Fuel Pump and Low Pressure Fuel Pump? Does it have both or just the one?
  10. After being towed by the RAC to my local Skoda Dealership I was told that the good news was that they had found the problem and that the fuel pump had failed on my mkII vRS 2.0 TFSI. The bad news was that there was no UK stock and a "call" had gone in to Germany to request a new part. Germany has yet to respond so I am now car-less for an indeterminate period while the part is located. My questions are:- 1. Is this a common fault on the vRS in general? 2. Why would something as basic as a fuel pump be out of stock in the UK? 3. Would a Skoda Dealership not normally go for second best and obtain a pattern part? Hopefully I will hear later today with some good news. There is also the possibility of cannibalising the vRS on the dealer forecourt
  11. I can check the battery and I have a battery conditioner/trickle charger I could use but I wouldn't have expected the battery to not hold its charge after 3 years. The MK1 had done 150,000 mile over 7 years on the original battery and it never missed a beat. I wouldn't have expected coil packs either as if one goes down it would misfire or run on 3 cylinders, wouldn't it? Anyway, I'll check the battery and see where I go from there. Thanks for your responses.
  12. I bought this low mileage vRS about 3 months ago. It has always been a tad slow to start. Probably not noticeable to most but it was not "on the button" like my MkI. Then the other morning the engine didn't "catch" on the first pull. Second pull and it still didn't catch. Third pull it fired up after turning over 5 or 6 times with my foot to the floor. Once started the engine ran fine without any misfiring, so I put it down to a one off. So now I am super-sensitive to how the car starts. Next day...OK. Day after... a bit reluctant. Today just a tad reluctant. Any ideas what this might be? I might be being a bit fussy but I'm used to better.
  13. Sorry if this sounds a bit dumb but, why don't you try it?
  14. What's wrong with holding the car on the handbrake like we were all taught when learning to drive? What do you all do, slip the clutch? No wonder my clutch had lasted 150,000 miles plus when I sold it and as far as I know is still going strong somewhere now
  15. I have bought oil from ASDA for the last 2 oil changes. Firstly Mobil 1 (5 litres) and secondly Castrol Edge (4 litres) both at a very competitive £30. Both had all the necessary VAG specs.
