  1. I love how the internet makes us all wrong from time to time. And gets other people to correct us. You are of course right. Thanks. Either way, I'm still not sure why you'd want B6s with standard springs. My general point was.... replace everything and sharpen things up or get new OE bits if you'd rather keep it smooth. Half and half is just a compromise.
  2. Has anybody changed it? Or paid somebody else to do so? The SQ solution would be mids in kick panel builds (which I've seen on the Mk5 GTI). But I'm not sure how picky people are in here. Would love to see what people have done...
  3. B4s are designed to be an OE replacement. For better quality and control. But also similar ride. They're designed to work with factory height springs. B6s are designed to work with lowering springs and are setup to be a little less smooth in order to offer better handling. In summary, if you're not changing the springs, get B4s. If you want to lower the car, get B6s.
  4. Have you scratched the itch yet? Earlier this year I drove to Italy and back from London in my mates B9 S5 Sportback. It's a wonderful place to sit. The seats are incredible. Everything is laid out near perfectly. The 8 speed ZF would convert even the most diehard manual fans. And for me, wasn't at all noticeably slower than 7 speed DSG/S-tronic of his previous car. (Which I also drove for a couple thousand miles). However, the pillarless design makes it noisy as hell with the windows open at anything over about 30/40 The exhaust note at 80 on the autostrada is massively droney. And B&O is possibly the worst £2000 you can waste ever. Is it better than any Octy? Yes. Is it £17k better? I don't think so. The badge has reached the point of mainstream now. With every 22yr girl getting an A1/A3. And unless you're buying a 6/7/8 or RS model, it's overpriced. Maybe that helps. Maybe it doesn't. Hope it does...
  5. What Audi TT things specifically? Where do I get poly bushes and which ones should I get? Why a matching set of ARBs instead of the Whiteline which seems to be universally recommended when I searched...? Thanks
  6. This is my second vRS and fortunately has the same options as my last one with parking sensors, cruise and sunroof. MOT 2 weeks ago just had a couple of advisories, but I want to tighten her up all round rather than spend on a replacement car, or go the PCP route. However, don't want to spend a fortune on a car that might only do me another 10-20k... After hours of reading on here, seems Whiteline RARB is the first step. I want to keep standard ride height and don't have the money for coilovers anyway, let alone FSDs. What OE bits could do with replacing at 120k just to sharpen things up? Don't wanna spend more than a couple hundred quid if possible. I'm thinking mostly about suspension components. She already has a single mass conversion, so could maybe get a map next year...
  7. Not tried the 3s, but the 2s were amazing on D90s back in the day. Good in the wet and wore for ages as well.
  8. I've just bought a silver, standard one on 108k for £1200 with cruise, sensors and a sunroof. I would say yours would be worth more on standard wheels and with the paint done. The remap adds nothing IMO.
  9. Given the recent discussion in here about bad WR D4s and my previous great experiences with Nokian tyres, I decided to dig a little. Also, it's that time of year, and I will shortly be returning to the alps, so wanted something decent on my new vRS. I have discovered that the only official, authorised distributor of Nokian in the UK is Nordic Tyres Their website is awful (particularly on a phone), but the service and knowledge on display is easily the best I've experienced when buying tyres EVER. Spoke to Gordon on 01576 203020. Incredibly knowledgeable bloke and actually prefers to have you buy tyres from one of his certified dealers around the country who know what they're doing. However, I live in Cornwall, miles from anywhere, so people who have a clue are rare. Anyway, he has shipped me 3x A3s for £84 a corner NEXT FREAKING DAY. None of this random-warehouse-in-Poland nonsense. I could have had D4s for £95, but opted to save some money as my shopping list for this car is already at £408 and counting. In official mk1 vRS size and speed rating, that's a better price than Camskill and/or any of the usual suspects - I checked. If you're thinking about Weatherproofs (as I imagine a lot of you are), or you need something more wintery like I do - call the guy. I was genuinely surprised to receive such great service and knowledgeable chat in this day and age. Hope this helps some of you.
  10. My previous silver one look delicious after clay and Collinite. I've just acquired another silver one and it's easily the lowest maintenance colour. I also love the way the black plastic bits set it off. Only thing that I want to change is the grill surround to black like I did on my last one. However, technics, yours is truly gorgeous. Well done.

  12. You can feel the current setup loosing it a bit, so needs doing. Will look into Mister Auto. Is there nothing else cheap and obvious?
  13. Interesting. On my old mk1 Octy vRS, I ran A3s for winter 12/13 and they were superb in the Italian alps. Then I came home and returned for a summer on Lake Garda. I left them on all summer. They wore a bit quicker, but no issues. After selling that car and buying a cheap hack for last winter in the alps, I went for D4s based on my great experience with the A3s. They were flat out amazing in the driving snow up and down the mountain. They were also left on the Leon over this summer which was again a hotter than here, Italian one (albeit alpine this time). That said, I'd be fascinated to see the pictures of the sides, as I wonder if maybe mine have done the same thing. Sadly, the Leon finally died in Italy and is now sat in a scrapyard down there, but I was losing a little pressure and they had like a brownish looking bit around where the sidewall met the tread. Just bought another vRS and will be heading back to the alps in about 10/14 days. So will need 4x something decent and was planning on D4s, but now not so sure...
  14. After a 2.5 year long absence, I'm returning to the fold. My last vRS was my pride and joy and I had her for about 5 years before stupidly selling because of a woman (lesson in there for all of us). After binning my 110 Leon in Italy after a windscreen issue rendered it pointless to repair, I've found another 2002 silver vRS with the same spec as my old one - cruise, parking sensors and sunroof. Couldn't be happier! It's only done 108k as well! But I'm a hotel manager in the Italian alps and I'll be driving back down there from Cornwall in about 10 days. Need help figuring out what needs doing before I go. It's had the cambelt and water pump at 102k earlier this year. So my list so far is as follows: Solid flywheel conversion and clutch kit New uprated battery (always like to have these for the freezing temps down there) Oil pickup and filter Coolant temp sender ARB bushes front indicators off ebay as they look a little grimey GB numberplates (I hate the stickers) Winter tyres (and 4 wheel alignment) I'm estimating all of that at about £900 Can't afford a rear ARB at the moment, but I seem to remember on my last one adding some TT or R32 bits to the steering which felt nice and were cheap. Any other suggestions?
