  1. my wife got a 1.4 tdi last week with 14000 miles on the clock .... so far, a rough guestimate of fuel economy is about 55mpg with mostly a and b road use .... she is very pleased
  2. we got our 1.4 tdi Level 1 on wednesday. It's that bluey/grey colour, and is absolutely immaculate with 14,000 miles on the clock. I have to say, i like driving it more than the 1.9tdi octy it replaced. The engine is very torquey, with plenty of pull even before the turbo spools up. I agree, that the engine makes quite a racket but this dulls down when the little car gets moving. i have already chucked it down a twisty country road, and altho the suspension is a bit softer, it handles well and steers very precisely .... much more so than the outgoing octavia. only down side to it so far ...... no glove box doors, and i dont think any easy way of fitting one :(
  3. Cheers Guys, Octy-Gone (see what i did there ?) ..... now we got the little cutesy cheeky furby and it's such a bundle of laughs to drive
  4. now that could be a thought ....... there's plenty of storage in the car, just none of it covered, and i'd hate for some roaming tea-leaf to spot my Justin Bieber collection and make off with it!
  5. Well guys, it's been fun, but it's been decided by a higher power (my wife) that the Octavia is too big for her day to day needs so it's time to say goodbye. I don't drive the car much since i got my C'e'e'd SW so i cant really argue with her. Our poverty spec taxi driver special will be leaving us on Wednesday night. *Sniff* But the good news is ..... it's getting replaced with another Skoda, a 1.4 PD80 Furby to be exact. I've had it out for a blast, and the little 3-cyl engine is a hoot. It definitely sounds like half a V6, and has a decent bit of go for such a small engine. The new kid is also poverty spec, but at least i wont be getting asked how much the fare is to ........ every 5 minutes So...... i'll be relocating to a different part of the forum. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out with advice on my Octy over the past couple of years, and i look forward to asking more dumb questions just down the street L8rs! Martyn
  6. is it even a vRS? looks like a classic with a bad body kit bolted on - mind you, i do think this guy is trustworthy (wink wink)
  7. I'm also thinking about buying 1.4 tdi furby 2 so i'd be interested in honest opinions of the engine. My wife also will be mostly driving it, and we're getting it because she finds our present octy 1.9tdi a bit big to handle.
  8. Unfortunately in Northern Ireland we have far fewer skoda dealers than mainland England so our choices are limited. The car we are looking at is an English registered 1yo Fabia 1 1.4TDI 80, which i do agree is very basic even compared to our octy classic, but this is what my missus wants so ..........
  9. Hi guys, My wife wants to get rid of our Octavia 1.9tdi and buy a Furby 1.4 tdi ... the ones we are looking at are all pauper spec, and altho decent inside, the lack of doors on the 2 glove compartments is putting me off a bit. Does anyone know if you can retrofit doors and if so where the parts can be sourced from (hopefully other than a stealer) Cheers in advance for any words of wisdom.
  10. i'm just back from 2200 miles around france with a fully loaded octy classic. rear tyre pressures were put up to 36, fronts to 34 and it handled perfectly on both high speed motorway work, and crappeh french back roads.
  11. I have a 1.9tdi which has been remapped by torquetronix here in northern ireland. Not entirely sure of the output now, but the guy who tuned it reckoned i would see at least 130bhp, perhaps more. The engine has a great deal more flexibility, has better economy, and on a recent trip down through France managed 54mpg fully loaded with people, and camping gear at an average speed of 80mph along the motorways. Even fully loaded the car was able to go like a scalded cat and performed faultlessly.
  12. The Subway coffee mug is the same shape as this too ....and i think it's only a couple of quid.
  13. getting about 50mpg on the daily commute, but expecting at least 60mpg on my trip to france next week. 1.9 tdi with a bit o' tweakin
  14. i have no experience of the 2.0 tdi but my remapped 1.9 tdi has brilliant fuel economy, and goes like the proverbial cat with it's arse on fire.
  15. yeah ... i'd just like to point out i've never seen 4000rpm in my skoda ..... there is absolutely no point revving it that high.
