  1. The manual gearbox set up from a mk 7 Golf R may well fit although im not sure if your vrs is petrol or diesel? but the cost to do this could be a lot,if you go down this route then fit a uprated clutch as the standard clutch in the Golf R is rubbish & not up to the job,i had a manual golf R & now have a DSG & i find the DSG much better than the manual to drive to be fair. It may be a better & cheaper option for you to look for another car if you must have a manual.
  2. I really like the look of these & considered one but i found them just too big a car for my needs, they look great in the metallic yellow colour.
  3. I have considered it but as the car isnt a year old yet & is dsg i will leave it as standard as the warranty is important to me,im very impressed with the gtd to be fair,i dont miss the R as much as i thought i would, yes the grip was better & the outright acceleration of the R was good but the gtd has plenty of power when needed & im enjoying 50+ mpg instead of 30 mpg. (i saw 63 mpg on a long run recently & that wasnt in eco mode or driving like a old man, best i ever got in the R was 36 mpg & that was driving like a old man in eco).
  4. Mixed driving, car was under warranty but vw class it as wear & tear, the clutch is a known weak point on the Golf R,sadly I only found this out after buying the car & joining the Golf R forum,a uprated clutch was going to be a grand fitted, the R has the same clutch as the Golf gti & is not up to the job, some owners have had the clutch fail at less than 9k miles.
  5. My Golf R has now been traded in for a 7.5 Golf gtd dsg,due to with only 29k on the clock & the clutch started slipping & a notchy gear change on 1st to 2nd which spoilt the driving experience for me,but the main reasons for changing was having to put a tank of fuel in it a week & two attempts to steal it via following me/car jacking & my insurance renewal nearly doubled due to the amount of Golf R's getting stolen,im loving the dsg box in the gtd & would never have a manual Golf again now.
  6. I had a mk1 octavia vrs then a mk2 octavia vrs ,i wasnt that impressed with the mk1 but i loved my mk2 & kept it for 6 years (which is a long time for me & cars) ,i tried a mk3 but wasnt impressed with the interior & didnt think it looked anything special in vrs form & i hate the new front end,so i bought a Golf R & ran that for a year & now have a 67 plate Golf gtd which im very impressed with.
  7. It is with regret that im informing you that Steve (Dakar) sadly passed away yesterday,Steve was a top bloke & my thoughts are with his family at this sad time. R.I.P Steve. x
  8. I have a GTD as well & now ive got the clocks set up to what i want showing im happy,i like the maps in the middle of the clocks & having the speedo & rev counter shrunk down a bit,i had a 15 plate golf R before & i think the new virtual cockpit really makes the golf a nice place to be in now along with the bigger infotainment screen.
  9. I have this in my 2017 Golf GTD & I like it a lot,i found on the Audi clocks that there was to much going on & the speedo was to small when the 3d maps were on etc.
  10. I may be wrong as i dont know lots about the diesel water pump but on the petrol its fitted to a housing under the inlet manifold & is driven by its own small drivebelt, this housing has the thermostat in it as well. I think the diesel water pump is driven by the cambelt.
  11. Its a common problem with the TSI engine, the water pumps leak & the thermostat housing leaks as well,i was told there is now a modified housing available,my previous Golf R had just started to leak from the housing before i traded it in,its quite a involved & expensive job to do.
  12. I was told there is now a modified housing/unit that gets fitted as a replacement when the original fails (im guessing this is now whats fitted to the later new cars) my Golf R 2015 had just started to use coolant before i traded it in (lucky me) it looked to be coming from the water pump/thermostat housing area, thankfully it lasted the week before it became the dealers problem. It does seem to be a very common problem & not a cheap fix either.
  13. I have just bought a 6 month old Golf GTD dsg last week,i was talking to the salesman about stuff & VW are stopping making manual versions of the GTD & GTI but you can still order & buy the DSG versions as i was going to buy new but we found this 6 month old one at a great price instead. They have stopped production of the GTD blueline model though.
  14. I would have pulled in at the first possible safe & sensible position & let the Ambulance pass then id continue on my way,id rather have 10 seconds of inconvenience to myself than hold up any emergency vehicle thats on its way to a emergency,im not saying what you did was wrong, this is what i would personally do,ive seen people panic when a emergency vehicle comes up behind them & in some cases stop totally causing the emergency vehicle to slow down or even stop...
  15. £35k for a skoda...... holy ****. Nice car though.
