  1. Sorry to resurrect and old thread but just thought I'd share my experience today. 06 TDi Ambiente. Had 20K service last week and I reported poor radio reception to them at the time (I had already checked the ANT value on the radio - it was OFF). When I got the car back they said they needed it again to look into the radio fault as they hadn't had enough time since they needed to remove the head lining. Car went back today for the radio fault, plus an alarm fault (goes off all the time). The service chap rang me up with good news about the alarm (faulty sensor, warranty replacement) and said that they couldn't find an issue with the radio, quote "We've been listening to it all morning." Since I'd already seen this thread and checked the ANT value on the radio diag screen I mentioned it to them (and where I'd found the info). They didn't seem to know about the diagnostic screen and went away to "try that next". 15 minutes later I got a call back "Yes, you're right it's the antenna base and we've got authorisation to replace that under warranty as well." I was a bit surprised that they would test the radio just by listening to it but in the end a good result. Well except that they now need to order the parts and the car will need to go back yet again (3rd visit now) to have them fitted. I must say that I'm happy that the dealer was ready to listen and have another look at the radio fault, I've been in similar situations in the past and found other garages less open to discussion. The chaps there were friendly and helpful and I got the result I wanted in the end - thanks in part to the Briskoda forum
  2. Excellent - a bit of mucking about but at least I don't need to buy any more oil
  3. Hi All I'm having a similar problem at the moment. I'm off to France next week and on checking the oil before the trip found that it needs to be topped up. I have an Octy II 1.9 diesel which is on fixed servicing so not using long life oil. I used to own a VRS Fabia so have about 4 litres of 505.01 oil in the shed but I thought I'd better check the handbook first to make sure it uses the same oil. In my handbook it says that for diesel engines without a DPF for fixed service intervals I should use 507.01. However I've just downloaded the current handbook PDF from the website and it says 505.01. When I went to the dealer this morning he told me that I needed to use 505.01 and indeed that is what they used last time they serviced the car. I'm assuming that the reference to 507.01 in my handbook is a misprint and I should in fact be using 505.01?
  4. If you find a good solution let me know. I just took delivery of my 06 Octy Ambiente with a Stream (note not MP3) HU. Ideally I'd like to keep the OEM HU, interface my iPod touch and keep the multi changer. Not asking a lot I know Anyone have any suggestions. I've seen the odd Stream MP3 on eBay but if I'm gonna change the HU I might be tempted to go for something else anyway. I fitted a Sony MP3 compatible unit in my Fabia VRS. Does anyone have a good solution using either the OEM HU or an aftermarket unit that will control the OEM changer ?
  5. I'm going from a Furby VRS to a 06 Octy 1.9TDI Ambiente on Friday. I love the Furby but I need more space and have gotten totaly sick of cleaning the stupidly light interior after my delightful children have used it as a climbing frame. Luckily the Octy has a nice black interior This is the 1st time I've stuck with a manufacturer through a change. I'm more than happy with Skodas right now.
  6. I've had two experiences of MSB so far. 1st was the MOT on my 53 plate Fabia VRS. I couldn't complain the test was carried out quickly without fuss and I was treated well by the service staff. 2nd was today when I went to trade in my Furby (:() for a used 06 plate Octy TDI. Mike the salesman was non pushy, friendly and very up front about everything and it was easy to strike a deal that suited us. He was more than happy to let me and the missus drive the car and didn't hold us to a set route. Promised to sort some minor scuffing for me on the rear quarter of the Octy so I guess I'll update on Friday when I pick it up. So far I'm pretty happy with them, but haven't had a any service or warranty work done by them yet. I'd be quoting them against Slacks anyhow as I've had work done there in the past with no problems. Paul
  7. Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts here and on the other thread. I've just replaced the resistor and my blowers are back to normal. Advice to anyone thinking of giving this a go ? Go for it - if you can use screwdriver its a pretty easy fix. One point though I got my resistor out by turning it 45 degrees left instead of right so if your's won't turn right try the other way
  8. Thanks national - I have the same problem with only position 4 working. I'll take the resistor pack off at the weekend and check it out. Paul Any chance of a link for the above or your pics. Searching the forum doesn't seem to throw that thread up. Either that or I'm blind
  9. Hmm, OK - I know "search 1st, ask 2nd" :( I just found a thread by national here which suggests this might be the resistor pack. I guess I'll need to try and get it out to test.
  10. Hi All I was wondering if anyone could help diagnose an issue I have on my '53 Reg Fabia VRS. Last week I turned on the blowers and found that there is no airflow or fan noise on the first three speed settings. Number four, aka 'the hairdryer', works fine and the aircon and heater work when on this setting. Last night I had the dash off and buzzed out the switch which appears to be fine, as do all the fuses. Am I looking at a new heater motor ? If so how hard are they to fit ? I've had the trim off far enough to find it and I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver. Is the replacement an easy enough job ? Any suggestions or advice would be gladly welcomed Thanks
  11. Hello All Just registered and thought I'd say Hi! Collecting my Fabia VRS on Wednesday and can't wait (still remembering the test drive ! Its a 53 reg totally standard (at the moment) in silver. Bye for now.
