  1. I used to have this intermittently, but now it's most days, and often results in the car going into limp mode, just after the kangerooing described above. When this happens the ecu logs P0299 Turbo Underboost. Switching the car off and on again resets. Not yet taken it to a specialist to have it fixed, but limp mode is seriously boring.
  2. Hi folks, So I was trying to correct a basic egr issue by removing the throttle body, and giving it a clean. Looked easy, removed the 4 bolts, cleaned it using some carb cleaner, being careful with where it went. Great job, 30 mins later put it back together. Then I started the car. 1.4 16v bbz. Lots of warning lights. Erratic idle, which settled to a stable idle at about 1100rpm but with no throttle response. I have a basic fAult code reader which brought up codes 17961 and 17912. I've done some research and it sounds like others have come across the same thing. Is this just a case of doing a throttle and egr adaptation? I've taken the car to a garage because I don't have the equipment to do this. I honestly don't know what I got wrong? Anyone else had this, or can offer wisdom. Anything that you can advise me to advise the garage to do? Thanks Mark
  3. Hi all, My 06 PD VRS has started to cut out. Steps to reproduce. 1. Start car from cold 2. Drive about a mile 3. Put foot on clutch Expected behaviour - car should idle at about 1000 rpm (cold) Actual behaviour - engine stops Let it get slightly warmer and you see the revs drop to about 400 but bounce back up to normal idle again. All 4 injectors were changed about 6k miles ago. EGR valve was cleaned about 2000 miles ago. Any ideas. I checked for fault codes, but it's clear. Thanks Mark
  4. Thanks for the replies - the garage diagnosed it as a coil pack. It runs on regular unleaded (Esso) - the question is whether the extra £3 per tank is worth it? I'm sure it's been discussed aplenty in other threads. I'll do some reading later. Thanks again.
  5. Hi All, Troubles with the wife's Fabia, 2004 1.4 16v 100bhp, BBZ engine 90k miles. Oil consumption has been reasonably high for a while - about 1 litre per 3000 miles (ok, not as high as some others here). Checked the oil on Saturday and it was a few cm's below the min on the stick. Topped it back up. Today, got a call from the wife to say that the Engine Management light was flashing, that there was no power and that it was juddering a lot below 2000rpm. Got home and checked it with a fault code reader - showed 16685 - Misfire on Cylinder 1. So that explains the juddering, and the lack of power is that + limp mode on the ECU. So, what's it likely to be. From the research I've just done it sounds like it could be anything from a valve head, to a spark plug. Anyone had the same thing? Also sounds like the BBZ doesn't get to play the piston rings game, so the oil consumption could be a red herring. Thanks
  6. I have similar symtoms, in fact i have had them a while now... Sounds like most people don't find it difficult to clean the EGR valve. Annoyingly, I have no idea what an EGR valve looks like, nor how I would locate and remove it on a 2006 pd170. Any advice / photos much appreciated. Thanks.
  7. The injectors went on my 56 plate VRS two weeks ago. I was accelerating away from a junction (doing about 10 - 15mph at a guess) when all power was lost. The engine braking in 1st year was pretty strong, and the car stopped dead, I didn't have time to dump the clutch and coast to a safe place, so I just stopped in the middle of the main road. It wouldn't restart (glow plug light flashing) so a few people helped push it out of the road to let the traffic flow. I can certainly see the potential for danger. Anyway, Skoda Aldershot have had the car for nearly 2 weeks, have replaced the wiring loom and see faults on every injector (yes, all 4). They ordered the parts on Friday to replace them, but haven't had them in yet. Reading above I now know why. To their credit they're being proactive in trying to get Skoda to pay for the repairs, but I am certainly concerned about a £3k bill if that doesn't happen. I'm really shocked that no-one has yet reported an actual accident from this issue. I hope VOSA and VW can work out a solution before the inevitable does happen.
  8. My 2006 vRS PD has cost more to maintain than my old Lotus Elise did. About 2k + per year. I was considering giving up and replacing it, but having 'invested' so much in repairing it, and balancing this against the cost of changing car, plus the risk that it's replacement would be equally unreliable I decided to just buy a warranty instead.

  10. Yes, I hired the camera setup from a company that tours around track days - well worth the money just for the video, The data and software they give you is brilliant too. It's the kind of thing which is great to do just before a number of upgrades, then maybe I'll do it again after upgrades to see the difference...
  11. that's being kind to my driving skill - perhaps call it 50% tyres, 50% consistent driver error.
  12. cheers - pads and tyres seem like a pretty easy win. whats the rough costing on a rear ARB? It sounds like it would fix a lot of the problems I had today...
  13. Hi All, I did a trackday today at Goodwood. Had a video running, and put the results on YouTube This is my 2nd trackday in the Octavia - I think the handling is very good, or at least certainly reliable, controllable and predicatable. My tyres, Sunto (on the car when I bought it), are the worst on the planet, and thankfully I've now worn them enough to justify buying proper tyres. Mechanically, the car stood up to it really well, it was pretty warm today and there were no issues at all - except the smell of the brakes perhaps. Using a diesel is certainly a way of standing out amongst the sea of Ferrari's and Porsche. Yes, ok I was the slowest, but who had the best fuel economy? Cheers.
  14. My old Elise would happily take a day of abuse then drive home as though it had been to the shops. I think it's time to see what the bog-standard PD vRS Estate is capable of. Now, it's a bit heavier than an Elise, so I'm guessing the brake's will take a beating. Anyone have advise on how much abuse the standard pads will take? Will they see a session through or fade half way through? What do they cost to replace? How well does the engine cope with constant max acceleration? Does the turbo go pop? Does everything overheat? Anything I should take as a recommendation to back off? No idea what a diesel will be like on track, but I'm hoping pretty good accelerating out of a corner, well, a fast corner at least, since the PD vRS is incapable of accelerating in 1st or 2nd without spinning the wheels uselessly. (although I'm hoping that it a symptom of the totally appaling 'Tomy My First Tyres' that are soon to be scheduled for destruction). Cheers.
  15. Hi - welcome to vRS ownership. If you're car is the diesel version, you may (or may not) be happy to know that you're not alone with this problem - there's a pretty long thread running here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/147233-cold-starting-issues-octavia-vrs-pd/ Mark
