  1. The 130 engine is something else entirely compared to the 105. I have the Octy and a Fabia vRS. The furby does not run out of breath like the Octy does but the Octy is no slouch. I believe it’s pot luck with a DSG, make sure it’s had an oil and filter every 38-40k as scheduled on the older wet clutch boxes like these. Cambelt wise it’s 4 years and about 80k whichever comes sooner I think. Not sure if the latest VAG advice to leave for longer applies on the older cars.
  2. On as in flashing or just stuck on. Sounds all much like an American side light thing to me. If you then use your indicators to turn left or right do they work okay then ?
  3. I know the electric struts are off. Do you have that annoying bleep when you press the open button from inside? Martin @Gizmo disabled mine, added close from internal button and enabled MPH large display, plus extend the headlight wash interval at Cosford many years back.
  4. So you did get this car in the end. Nice one Trev, join the S2 family. Do you have the boot gadgets that sit in the side tracks ie 2 of those strappy things and 4 tethering blocks. Sorry for the terminology no idea what they call them. I had to buy my own boot split bar as mine never came with one, I see you have that in situ. The boot is so large stuff just ends up all over the place, without those straps for the odd bag I hang off the side hook.
  5. No depreciation so you are saving money in real terms. Risk the cambelt as it will cost more than the car maybe worth or just as much. When the time comes and it’s beyond economical repair a scrap type agent will come and collect it and put money in your account.
  6. @WaveyDavey did you miss Front parking sensors self parallel park electric folding/heated door mirrors I have no idea what’s standard or not on an Elegance spec, these are all decent extras worth mention.
  7. I was just looking to run a post regarding this, had to hazard a guess where it might go and found this thread. Been window shopping for a while for some new cars in the family. I want a Superb 3 276 if I can get a good one and SWMBO would like a Golf maybe a 7.5 from the current Seat Leon she has. I have stayed in the Skoda family owning 3 Skodas at the moment. I would like the next car for me, to have an approved warranty and other benefits, like you @WaveyDavey noticed that a Seat or VW provides the peace of mind I would like with the next purchase. Really don’t understand this rationale by VAG.
  8. Road conditions and environment might have an impact on wear. Perhaps even speed bumps could cause long term issues. Just monitor as you say
  9. I have no prior knowledge on this car and it was a minefield when looking for cars myself about 6 years ago as I too was concerned about chain driven engines. Our Seat Leon 63/13 plate with a 105BHP 1.2TSI engine has a belt. It was changed on purchase and again last year.
  10. I see more cars being broken on FB than for sale that says something Matt. It can’t last forever before parts become more scarce
  11. Bit late to the chat @wolfsburger glad to see you got yourself a nice SE example. I am on my second standardish Fab vRS. I had one about 11 years ago as a second car. Kept it for a few years then sold it for about the same as I paid. It had the seat surgeons leathers inc door cards. The polo dash drawer. And some other tasteful mods. Fast forward to my 50th and I wanted a 272/280 S3. Hard to come by and a lot of money. Have ended up with a standard very low mile 55 plate Furby again been about a year.. Needs some work. I don’t drive much these days but it would be my car of choice as the fleet is up-to 4 cars on the drive. I would love an SE though with heated leathers lol
  12. It’s the chassis damage that you might not be aware of that seals the write off argument. Unfortunately
