  1. Sadly, I'm moving away from Skoda shortly due to the long lead times for a new VRS, unavailability of options, infotainment issues and some other small things which just prompted me to change. This is my third Octavia VRS..... My new car is in transit from Italy and should be with me early i July. In the meantime I'm enjoying the last month in my 245........until that was, the "Check Brake Pads" warning came up this evening. My wife reckons its the car trying to tell me something. In all seriousness, ballpark - how many miles are left on pads after the warning light? I should say it cleared after a restart. Naturally I'd rather not spend money when I'm getting rid of the car (she's cost me enough over the past five years bless her!) Any info?
  2. ....but you can't use Waze on the instrument screen, which is a real shame.....
  3. Tell me more - where have you located the amp and does it require any wiring cutting / changes whatsoever?
  4. The Axton sounds interesting - vehicle specific wiring?
  5. I mean literally ANYTHING would be an improvement. I can't actually believe this one got approved! Somebody needs to bring out a black one at least, maybe with a milled alloy shift selector. I would pay good money for that, although at the moment I'm thinking a MK IV may not be the way to go right now.....
  6. A very British solution - one that is perfectly acceptable and ultimately, a great solution as it avoids being disturbed by the light on the screen at night. Absolutely first-class sir 👍
  7. Gotta be honest - that chunk of nasty plastic chrome is putting me right off. Has anybody removed theirs and recoloured/wrapped, or does anybody offer a replacement that looks slightly less like a bit of Airfix kit?
  8. I've never read so much junk in all my life; - replacing the speakers cannot be "detected" without physically opening up the door and checking! This type of nonsense is typical of dealership service advisors, who in reality, know SFA about cars anyway, and is completely unnecessary scaremongering and anybody with an ounce of technical nouse would laugh at whoever came out with that little gem! I probably wouldn't replace 4ohm drivers with 2ohm, but then again, I don't know of many 2ohm drivers either, so that's a moot point anyway. The reason you shouldn't change impedance is purely to avoid additional extra load on the output stage of the amplifier module, however most aftermarket speakers are 4ohm anyway so that's fine. As for this invalidating your warranty - I'd love to see that stand up in a court of law. What utter tosh; if you uprate the brakes, that does not invalidate the warranty on your seat heaters!
  9. Has anybody done a sensible upgrade to the speakers, added an amp and a sub yet? Given Canton is not available (lets not get into the validity or otherwise of that solution), there must be a market for a reasonably priced upgrade? Maybe Focal (or similar) speakers, a neat sub in one of the side areas of the boot - 8" woofer (not a 10" or 12") and a five channel amp? I know there will be owners who go the whole hog, but for the vast majority of people, a system that doesn't contravene local arms limitations would be nice 🙂
  10. I get what you are saying, but the thing is I don't want to tear apart my new car - did this previously and no matter how well it goes back together (and I am anal about my work), it just promotes future rattles. Also an aftermarket amp and speakers wont offer the "air" of the Canton additional dash speakers and equalisation. I'm not a bass freak and the Canton in my MKIII sounds gorgeous because I've spent a while making sure the settings are )just so(. People tend to overdrive the sub and then complain when it doesn't perform like a 10" in a box 🤷‍♂️. Skoda are going to lose a sale as this will (would), have been my vehicle for the next six years.
  11. I've heard the MKIV Canton, and thought it sounded pretty sensible, but not heard a standard setup as yet. Next on my list, however I think I probably wouldnt buy the vehicle without being able to spec Canton again as it was quite a big improvement over the standard MK3 system. Not "wow, amazing", but enough to make it worthwhile.
  12. Been away from the forums for a couple of years and always found the members incredibly helpful. but I wasn't expecting the smart-arse responses on my first post for a while. Some people just can't keep their trap's shut and scroll on past.........
  13. Currently running a fully specced MY17 245 - full leccy alcantara, Canton etc, Quite fancy a MKIV, but struggling to spec one up. No Canton option. £1700 (gulp) for the leccy alcantara seats and when adding that option, you cant add heated screen or wheel, but they don't seem to be included in the seat option. It might not sound much of a dealbreaker, but the Canton IS better than the standard system and I spend a lot of time in the car, so its a must have for me. Tried speaking to Skoda UK online and that was a waste of time - they told me to speak to a dealer, but my nearest is Chichester........
  14. Be very very careful about adjusting the beam. I really want mine higher so asked one of the tech's at an Audi dealership I go to. He stuck it on the beam checker and said it was absolutely top adjustment. any higher and I would get people flashing me. Adjustment is made with VAS, NOT manually............the lights will just adjust themselves back down because they are linked to the auto-levelling so manual messing wont work......
