  1. I had a conversation with Nationwide Cars this afternoon. On a very fully specced L&K the OTR discount was just under 18% compared with a DrivetheDeal discount of 11%. This was definitely a factory build - I specced FL options like Rear view camera and confirmed that the LED rear lights were included in the L&K price - they were not on their price-list. Actually the options list seemed a bit old. Delivery in 12 weeks quoted, but not from a Skoda build schedule, rather from the idea that Europe would be back from their holidays by then. Things I asked: Would I be the first registered owner? Yes - the paperwork is sent off to the DVLA on the day before delivery and would arrive with me after about 6 weeks. Am I buying from a dealer? No - I am buying directly from NWC. Delivery is from a Skoda dealer. Can I take advantage of 5 year warranty offer? No - because of the discount I could not take Skoda offers and if I approached a dealer after delivery I would not be eligible. The car comes with 3 years manufacturers warranty. Can I buy the 3 year servicing offer? No - because of the discount I could not take Skoda offers and if I approached a dealer after delivery I would not be eligible. How can they offer discounts that are greater than the dealer margin? Because they buy in bulk they can get these prices. I also asked about discounts on a Tiguan (they dont discount VW passenger vehicles) and an X3 (they will have a deal in place with BMW next week but cannot do prices today) Obviously that price is very attractive but I am concerned - can anyone shed any light on what is really happening here? I understand that the DrivetheDeal offer would be from a dealer who is choosing to take a no-effort sale in order to keep their quotas up. If I were to proceed with this I would want to see those answers written down and have a good look at the contract I was signing. Advice from more experienced minds than mine gratefully received.
  2. Interesting - I would then expect the DSG to show as noisier than the manual, as when you go to full throttle in the DSG it will drop one or two gears at 50kph, and hence the revs and noise level will be higher. The figures above though show the DSG as being the same as the manual - does anyone know why?
  3. That's interesting - your 58 reg, like my 59 reg, came out before the Estate model, which was when the Park Assist changed to forwards and backwards mode. So have you had a dealer upgrade to your firmware? My Park Assist definitely reverses into the space and then hands control back to me. Does yours asks you to engage forward gear and continue to steer? And I ask again, is this an upgrade available from a dealer?
  4. Can I ask a related question? Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the Park Assist fitted to the hatchback to the version fitted to the estate? The software in my hatchback will only park in one reverse motion (and then returns control to the driver) - whereas the later software in the estate reverses and then drives forward (and I assume fits into a smaller space).
  5. Don't get your hopes up too much - the photo of the Lidl umbrella shows it has a hooked handle, I dont think that will fit in the door pocket :( http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_15366.htm http://www.lidl.co.uk/static_content/lidl_uk/images/UK/UK_54476_01_b.jpg
  6. Yup, I know that - I'm not sure that my car does! When the message came up "Check Right Rear Fog light" it turned out to be the LHS - nearside (in the UK) bulb that was faulty. Changing that bulb into the RHS (offside in UK) changed the message to "Check Left Rear Fog light" If I get time I will take some more random bulbs out at the weekend and see what the messages are.
  7. Interesting - I was going to raise start a related thread myself. I got a "Check Right Rear Foglight" message on the Maxidot, together with the bulb warning sign. When I checked that bulb it looked and tested ok, so I actually switched on the foglights and had a visual inspection. The right foglight was lit, but the left hand one was not. I swapped the bulbs over and the fault moved to the RHS, and the Maxidot now said "Check Left Rear Foglight". I changed the bulb that was not lighting, and now both rear foglights work and the fault display has gone from the Maxidot. So I have the situation where the warning on the Maxidot is switched between right and left. I'd be interested to know - has anyone else seen this left/right switch in the warnings - do I have some crossed wirings in my car, or is this a generic fault in the right hand drive Superb?
  8. I too have exactly the same problem in the same door. I shall be investigating the WD40 solution. Personally I put it down to the missing umbrella - if Skoda had supplied the umbrella as specified in the brochure (Jan 2010 car) then the door would be just heavy enough to close every time
  9. Personally I would order the MDI interface - that way you can plug in an iPod or a USB stick and control all the tracks from the front panel of the Columbus. Mine does not have MDI, so I put 10 - 15 albums on a SD card and transfer them over onto the built in hard disk, or play them directly from the SD card - you can do either. The attractiveness of the MDI is that I would not have to organise my music twice, once inside the Columbus and once inside my iPod. Other than that I agree with other comments - it is not worth buying the 6 CD changer, and the SatNav is very useable, despite its postcode limitations. Enjoy your new Superb!
  10. Thanks for a definitive answer. Given how "techie" we all get in this forum, I was surprised not to see an earlier comment on that Times article. In just over a week of ownership I have not found an opportunity to test out the park assist - I find I am switching it on when crawling in traffic past a line of parked cars, just to prove to myself it is working! (sad) And for those who don't like technology aids - well you're better than I am - I CAN parallel park, change gear and hold my speed on an empty motorway... but I would rather a machine did it for me. And the front overhang on the superb worries me - I cannot see the front corners, so I will be happy to let PA steer me away from trouble. It may be a gimmick that I will use only once, but I would have specced the front parking sensors if I had bought new, buying second hand the only way to get them is to find a car with PA. @infoschumi - your supplementary question is interesting - PA looks after your "nearside" corners but not necessarily the "offside" corner which could be getting close to a car parked on the other side of the road, a wall or anything. I suspect there is no way to find out for sure that does not run the risk of a visit to the paintshop.
  11. I remember reading a review of the Superb Estate in the Times, see here, which amongst other things said: "the already legendary Skoda Park Assist system, which enables the Superb to measure available parking spaces and then to reverse into them on your behalf, sparing you the hassle of wrestling with the wheel — and the embarrassment of cocking it up and having to come out and try again while people are queueing up to drive past you. Formerly this system, being innately and understandably cautious, would agree to park only in spaces that were 1.4m longer than the car. Now the electronics have been tweaked and it wants only 80cm of extra space. That’s a quantum breakthrough." So the suggestion (if true) is that there are two versions of the Park Assist - one which will squeeze into a car + 0.8m space, and an older version which needs 1.4m of extra space. The hatch and the estate are the same length, so this leads me to a number of obvious questions: Which version have I got in my Jan 2010 hatch? How could I tell? Can the dealer or anyone else adjust or update the system? and no, I'm not prepared to go out with a ruler and try parking in decreasingly small spaces Any advice or knowledge out there?
  12. I have the same symptoms - I am following the sequence in post #50 - i.e. setting the blackberry to listen before asking the phone to search - the pairing sequence starts on both machines but eventually the car times out with cannot connect. The phone remembers the partial connection as Skoda rSAP, with the same services as you. When I tell the phone to transfer the phonebook, the car partialy receives one vCard - I can examine it, but not save it. Most frustrating! I wonder of someone with a working Curve 8250 could have a look at the other settings on their phone - is your bluetooth encrypted? are other bluetooth services selected, or just SAP? Is there an overall security policy on your Blackberry - mine has a work imposed security profile? I too have an old Nokia working perfectly, but that does not help me get my work done. Any help gratefully received, thanks. 2 days later.. to edit my own post (well no-one else is listening!). I have made some further progress, I bumped into a work colleague who has the same phone (an 8250 Curve) but on O2, whereas I am on Orange. In theory the two phones are subject to the same work security policy, but I thought it was worth the attempt and dragged him down to the car park. His 8250 connected to my Superb with no problems - after the 16 digit pin which I entered in the blackberry I got a prompt on the Superb to enter the sim pin on the maxidot display, which you do one digit at at time, followed by [save]. Then everything works - the address book from the Blackberry transfered into the Columbus and I can make calls from either the MFS or the phone button on the Columbus. So I need to find out what the difference is between these two phones - I cannot believe that it is a difference between Orange and O2, but in case it is can those who have made a successful connection with a Blackberry please reply stating which carrier they use, and if their BB is subject to corporate security settings? Thanks again.
