  1. Hello - My wife and I have bought her a 2nd-hand 7k miles 05-2016 Yeti (4x4 150tdi) from our local Skoda dealer (when I say local, it's not the very local dealer we normally use - but a less local one as our dealer could not source a similarly-priced Yeti). The car was listed as SE Business spec (without Sat Nav), but on viewing and investigating further we realised it was basic SE (description incorrect when sold to dealer). Anyway, we picked the car up on Saturday, and I then noticed it did not come with the emergency triangle - but the dealer states that this is no longer standard on new Yeti's (which amazes me, as surely this is a necessity for roadside breakdowns?). So, it looks like I'm out-of-date. To help me feel more comfortable that the car has all that it should have, can anyone here please provide: A link to an official Skoda Yeti brochure for a May 2016 model? The current version on the Skoda website is dated Nov 2016. [E.g. the current brochure states that SE spec should come with umbrella under passenger seat, but our's didn't and it wasn't obvious where this would sit if it did.] A list of items that should be included with the car (ours did not come with spare wheel kit); e.g. warning triangle, any boot accoutrements, etc. If not easy to provide, I will phone Skoda HQ (I dealt with a chap called Phill the other week when confirming that car was SE only, and he was very helpful). Finally, on a plus note, my wife is delighted with the Yeti (not Monte Carlo, which is a pity as I wanted her to have Xenons) - she loves the nippy diesel engine (much more sprightly than her 125bhp TSI Octavia) and enjoying the Bluetooth functionality (she will enjoy it all the more if she can get the SmartLink to work as it should!). Many thanks, Andrew.
  2. It does use AdBlue [i saw the tank in the boot floor] ! So, all good probably. I am probably being overly suspicious... Looking at the brochure, I now see some options that this car has which are not on the SE (which are presumably on the SE Business spec): roof rails and DAB radio (and voice control we think too). So, it probably is more than SE. Anyway, we both found it lovely to drive, very responsive and nippy - much more enjoyable than all the online reviews imply. Still to test comfort on a longer journey and at motorway speed.
  3. Thought I'd give you an update. We have ended up buying a 8-month-old Yeti (7k miles) from Douglas Park [2016, 150 4x4, SE Business but without Sat Nav, petrol blue]. The reasons we didn't end up going with Arnold Clark cars we were interested in: Two of the AC cars went on Friday, and both remaining were DSG and had scratches / minor dents. My wife test drove the DSG in a Rapid this afternoon, and she didn't like the DSG much at all. Douglas Park had another Yeti manual which my wife drove, and she loved it (the car we have now put down a deposit on). We were impressed with this DP dealer 6 years ago (when we last visited for a test drive) and so felt better going with them. So, the car we have bought is registered as an SE Business spec, but it came to dealer with no Sat Nav (they say it was a mix-up). So the dealer has agreed to add the Smart Link option within the price - this should be a reasonable alternative to the Sat Nav. I do have three questions please: If this car is SE Business spec with no Sat Nav, does this essentially mean it is a basic SE spec? I can find nothing on Google about Yeti SE Business spec (which itself surprises me). I thought I would use the VIN to confirm that it's 150 rather then 110bhp. VIN 5th digit is "D" - but the only guide I can find implies this is the 103kw engine, not 110kw. Can anyone confirm if "D" = 150bhp? I don't have the car yet, just the VIN (supposed to be finalising and collecting next week). Does anyone have any experience of using say Google Navigation via the Smart Link, and is it an effective alternative to Sat Nav? Many thanks!
  4. Thanks folks! A solid vote for DSG from most of you. Yes, if we went DSG, we would take out the additional 2 year warranty. I quite agree around Arnold Shark - I would not usually buy from them on principle (we previously have bought from local Skoda Henrys dealer, who we have a good relationship with). But, AC are offering a massive saving (£10k+ saving for a 7-month old car with only 4.5k miles - these are ex AC Hire cars), and Henrys are looking to see if they can come close (I would go with them if close). Of the cars currently in the running, it boils down to "Manual but Red" or "Silver but DSG" (the car is for my wife, and she feels as if the red would be like driving a pillar box). We shall see. I can see "Silver but DSG" winning. Thanks again!
  5. Hello - We're buying a 2016 used Yeti (ex hire car from Arnold Clark) for my wife, the 150bph TDI 4x4 SE Business model - there is a Manual and a DSG (DSG an extra £300, but 7.5k miles instead of 4.5k miles). I have seen several posts about DSG problems (dry or wet?), but I think these were pre-2015 models and have since been rectified. My questions: 1. Is the 2016 model DSG now error-free? 2. Would you opt for Manual or DSG? It is mainly town or country driving my wife will be doing. For diesel, DSG has less mpg, higher road tax, but makes driving less effort (in town) - unless response to 1. is No! 3. Does the diesel DSG have 6 gears (and the Petrol 7 gears)? The salesman said 8 gears, but I think he is wrong (I know that Stronic is 8 gears, but don't think Skoda). I seem to think that DSG diesel is actually less economical than manual, but it's the other way around for the petrol engines. Thanks a lot folks. Andrew.
  6. Thanks all for your helpful (and humorous) replies. Big G, I will pay your VAG tyre chap a call tomorrow morning (it's not far off my route anyway). In case anyone is interested, this is the latest reply from the dealer on the wheel. I am still confused as to the differences in the two quoted wheels (slightly different part numbers), I don't see any obvious differences, but then where is the sense in having two different part numbers for the same wheel?! "On the link you have sent us the original part number of the wheel from Bickerton Skoda is CCH800001 which then supersedes to part number 3T0071498E7ZS which is £128.67 plus VAT. It also tells you the factory fiited wheel for your car which is part number - 3T0601025E7ZS which is size 7,5J X 18 ET46 and retails at £323.63 plus VAT. This is in accordance with Skoda’s ETKA which is Skoda’s Parts Catalogue system we use to determine the correct parts for your car and 3T0601025E7ZS is the wheel listed for your chassis number. We have discounted the price for you to £290 plus VAT on a 2 day order. The wheel from Bickertons might be ok for your car but it is not listed for your chassis number therefore we would not supply part number 3T0071498E7ZS unless you specifically asked us to and accepted responsibility for doing so. The part number CCH800001 from Bickertons is an old number so they are possibly trying to get rid of some old stock."
  7. My 2010 Superb is with the Glasgow dealer for service and MOT (including a lot of work on the wheels, callipers and brake discs). The rear left alloy has a buckle and they recommend replacing. The quoted price for 18'' Themisto alloy wheel only is £290+vat. I challenged this, as I remember the Themisto ally costing £170 new (when I bought the car). I pointed the dealer to Skoda Parts website which is selling the wheel for £168 (part number 3T0601025E 7ZS). They state that the wheel should be suitable for the 2008-13 Superb. Link below. http://www.skodaparts.com/product/superb-themisto-alloy-wheel-18-inch-2008-2013-21074 But the dealer has come back with the following response: This is not a Skoda authorised website. The wheel in this link is for the new 2015 Superb model and so is unsuitable for my 2010 car (according to my car chassis number). Their internal Skoda parts system states I need a different Themisto alloy for my chassis number, the price of which is £290+vat (i.e. double the price of the above wheel). Does anyone know if the dealer's information is correct? Is it really twice the price for a (supposedly) slightly different alloy wheel for the older model? I am tempted to buy this £168 wheel and have it fitted elsewhere. But, I would like to know that this wheel would still be suitable for my car. Many thanks for your time.
  8. An update on the boot electrics failure: My local dealer replaced the electric boot unit in March - this cost me £200 including labour (as my car is 3.5 years old, so outside of warranty). Roll forward 4 weeks and the issue has happened again - complete boot electrics failure. My car is booked in again this weekend (the delay as I need a courtesy car). I had phoned Skoda HQ up originally to see if they would cover any of the original repair cost, as it seemed like a machanical design issue to me (I use the car rarely, generally 2 x 35-mile trips each week). However, they would not budge. My question is: given that this exact failure has happened again within a 4-week period of being supposedly fixed, surely I can't be expected to pay for the fix a second time? Is there some sort of guarantee that comes with mechanical work done by Skoda dealers? Once the dealer have diagnosed the issue, I will contact Skoda HQ and raise this with them.
  9. I have the same same problem with my 2010 Superb. For 3 years, the passenger wing mirror would return to it original position after dipping, once I had finished reversing and started driving forwards. Now, the mirror no longer reverts back to its original position, and I have to move it manually using the remote switch. It is rather annoying, but not annoying enough for me to pay the dealer to look into it and repair it. I have experienced a few other issues with my Superb in recent months: - Failure of the twin boot electric unit, which had to be replaced at the cost of £200, and - The rear brake disc clamped onto the rear wheel while we were on holiday, meaning we were stranded on a remote island for days. Once we had been towed back to the mainland, the Skoda dealer couldn't explain the cause, and simply recommended replacing rear discs and pads - which they did. Another £200. But it was their inability to diagnose the problem which annoyed me the most. So, all combined, it's left a bitter taste, and made me question buying another Skoda (which I always thought I would).
  10. Thanks for the replies. SkodaNP, I have found the Wiring Fix thread, and will have a look at this. It doesn't seem to be quite the same problem, as the problem there appears to be a non-working hatch button, whereas with mine neither the batch or boot buttons work, nor too the keyfob bot release button. But, I shall have a gander at the photo solution, and see if it could help with mine. Thank you again, Andrew.
  11. I actually have a few questions to ask your valued opinions on today please: 1. Boot electrics failure Lasy Sunday evening, I packed up my car as per usual to drive to my weekly pad for work (50 miles away). It was mostly motorway driving. My boot was working fine when I left but, when I arrived, the boot would not open (neither button under the twindoor boot rim worked, and neither did the keyfob boot button). So, I had to climb in through the back seats to get all my stuff. The inactive boot stayed like this for 4 days, and then was working when I checked it on Thursday evening (and again this morning). That car had not been switched on between Sunday late evening and Friday morning. Any ideas what could have caused this, and whether I should have it looked at (now that it's working again)? The only thing that I can think I did differently was leaving my freshly-baked bread cooling in an open tupperware container in the boot as I drove across on Sunday, meaning that there would have been some steam in the boot area. Not sure if this could have contributed to the problem. It wasn't a large loaf, so I would be surprised. 2. Battery In recent weeks, the engine has taken a few turns to start when I turn the key in the ignition. This has never been the case before (since I bought it new in Aug 2010). This may well be a sign that the battery needs replacing. I know we had to buy a new battery for my wife's Octaiva Estate (bought new in June 2010) last year, after it failed completely. And I see there are threads on here about underpowered Superb batteries. So, perhaps this is not that uncommon, and it may have contributed to the boot power above? 3. Passenger wing mirror I have this set to lower that when I select the Reverse gear. As far as I remember, this has always reverted back to the original position after an alternative gear has been selected. However, the mirror no longer reverts, and remains in the lowered position. Not unsurmountable obviously, as I then just manually adjust it back. But, it should revert back on its own. Could this again be linked to the battery above, or just an unrelated issue? I thought I would throw these all in together. Thanks for bearing with me thus far, and thank you in advance for your thoughts. Andrew.
  12. I put my windscreen demister on this morning and noticed that the right (driver's) side of the windscreen was not clearing. I put my hand over the windscreen vents on the right-hand side of the dashboard and no air was coming out of them until I moved my hand left towards the centre (beyond the left line of the steering wheel) where the air was coming out strongly. Is there any obvious reason why the vents are failing at the far right-hand side? Could it something blocking them (that I might be able to correct manually) or is it more likely a technical issue? It's not major, it would just be nice to fix, as it is the driver's side. Thanks.
  13. I got a pair of new Bosch windscreen wipers on Ebay for my twindoor, sure they only came to £25 for the pair of them.
  14. As one the previous posters, I actually saw an increase in my MPG readings when going from summer to winter as it was reducing from 18'' alloys to 16'' steels.
  15. Hello - Considering buying the above unit 2nd hand for my wife's Octavia Estate Elegance (2010 model). I have a few questions: 1. Is this definitely compatible with the Octavia (internet research suggests yes)? 2. Is it easy to fit (could a complete non-mechanic like me fit it, for example)? 3. Are there other phone kits for a similar price (c £90) out there that would be better suited to the Octavia? I always regret not ordering the bluetooth phone option as standard for my wife's car (I really enjoy it on my Superb) and so I have been looking to get something like this fitted for a while (hopefully something that I can fit myself, with no know-how). Thanks for your advice. Andrew
