  1. Thanks for all the info, I don't know why my original search didn't find the link to previous posts so thanks for that. My local parts supplier had a Varna D5 Silver Dynamic battery that fitted perfectly. After first switch on I got an ESP error warning and the ESP and power steering lights stayed on until I had driven the car a few yards. All this was explained in the manual after I found the right pages so all seems OK. Tony
  2. My 2010 Yeti now needs a new battery. Good that the first one lasted 6 years but bad that I wasn't advised to change it at the last service last month. I went out and bought a new battery before reading the manual but now see that Skoda say that the battery must be changed by a specialist garage or major damage may occur. I have always changed my own batteries on previous cars but is there something I should know before I try it on this one? I have searched the forum but can't find any topic that covers this. Tony
  3. Had to get it done in a hurry as was going on holiday and it would have been parked outside while away. Phoned Clarion cars of Worthing (where I bought it new) on Saturday. They took it in on Monday, stripped out the door trim, cleaned contacts and windows started working. Subject to caveats re intermittent faults we agreed that they should replace trim and see if it stayed OK. Since they had given me a courtesy car for the day I picked the car up on Monday night but had to go back on Wednesday for them to fit a new piece of door trim that had to be ordered from Skoda. Excellent service with a smile and total cost? £40 plus VAT. Good old Clarion. Now back from holiday and the windows are still working. Tony
  4. Big Mistake. Went away on holiday for three weeks with the VRS parked in the drive. Fitted a breathable tailored cover to protect the paintwork but didn't notice that I had left the driver's window down. Now the electric windows won't work. I have noted from a previous post in this forum that there is a controller in the driver's door that is susceptible to damp so I guess that this is the cause. I shall take the car to my dealer next week but should I budget for a costly major repair? Tony
  5. If someone has already mentioned it I have missed the post, but for me the most useful feature of the BiXenon lamps is the "travelling" setting that switches the lights for continental driving without the need for those horrible stick on deflector lenses. Absolutely brilliant as our Yeti is used a lot in Spain.
  6. I think it does have an angle sensor but have now discovered the disabling switch that even the dealer didn't know about. RTFM error!! Inside the door pillar behind the driver's seat there is a push button that glows red. When you press it it turns to orange, then lock the car within 30 seconds and the motion sensors are disabled.
  7. Travelling to Spain by Ferry tomorrow and it looks pretty rough. Can I disable the alarm when locking the car to stop risk of the alarm flattening the battery during the voyage? When travelling with the Fabia VrS I double click the remote to disable the alarm, but it seems that on the Yeti this only disables the ultrasonics. Will motion of the vehicle at sea set off the alarm and flatten the battery?
  8. Done about 100 miles in the new Candy White 170tdi, treating it gently, when I took the Fabia VRS to a local Skoda Specialist for its annual service.(They don't do Yeti's). Told the service manager about the new Yeti and he said "If its a diesel you need to thrash it first. ignore the manual. Drive it like you stole it. If you don't the piston rings will never bed in before the bores get glazed and it will always burn oil." What do other Yeti owners think of this? Has anyone got an oil burner through being too gentle on the run in? Tony
  9. I bought my Yeti from West Sussex Motors. Read the thread on stone chipping and suggested that foils should be fitted. I had not done this before the purchase agreement so they would only order them on payment. Cost = £15 per side. The foils had not arrived when the car was delivered and I have now had it just over a week. The foils are now in the dealers but they also now want £25 for fitting. They have suggested that I can collect them and fit them myself to save the extra cost. Has anyone done this and is it a difficult job?
  10. Sorry, missed the earlier post giving the part numbers, have them now. Tony
  11. Just read this thread before picking up my new Yeti. Does anyone have the part number for the factoryt protective foils? I want my dealer to fit them before I collect the car. Tony
  12. I have had my Fabia VrS from new, now 5yrs old and 30K miles. Although I love it I would like a little more space and luxury now. We use the car mainly for commuting to and from Spain and the long range comfortable cruising ability and the easy parkability in Spanish villages are advantages but the storage space for lugging stuff to and from Spain is limited even for only two persons and luggage. I also have an old Shogun 4x4 which is useful for English winters but is now much too big since I have given up ballooning. It seems logical to replace both the Fabia and the Shogun with a Yeti and the 170 Elegance would probably be my choice although I have yet to see and try one. Has anyone else moved from a Fabia VrS to a Yeti and did you regret parting with the VrS? Tony
  13. For those who may be interested the fault turned out to be the starter motor. Now this has been replaced the car is back to normal.
  14. Thanks for the input. Loose battery terminals were my first thought but checked that they are tight. On the other hand the headlights do go out when I try the starter. What puzzles me is that the battery voltage remains high and does not indicate a discharged battery. I wonder if something could have damaged the new battery or whether it was just a dud. Rated 70 amp hr and worked fine for a week. I shall phone the insurers in the morning as no Skoda specialist open till Monday. Fortunately there is one in the next town.
  15. Stranded in spain, advice please. A new battery was fitted a week ago after the original one failed (nearly five years old.). Now the car suudenly won't start, although the battery does not appear to be flat. I have recharged it in situ to 12.8v but nothing happens. The battery light goes out, sometimes comes on again and flickers and then goes out. Could it be a faulty starter solenoid? So little access room I can't get to it to ckeck. All the manual sais is drive the car to a specialist dealer. I have breakdown insurance but would like some idea of how to describe the fault before calling the insurance company.
