  1. Maybe someone can help... Replacing the fuel filter on my 2008 Octavia 1.9 TDI PD. There's a few different options on EuroCarParts. I've done a bit of digging around forums etc. Looks like you need to check the filter housing to see which one you need. ...so, checked and my filter housing and it says "3C0 127 400 C" and "UFI" on the line below. Three options are: a) Housing Type1K0 127 400 B/C/E/J - Mann b) Housing Type1K0 127 400 K - Mann c) Housing TypeUFI Do we go with option A or option C?? Option B looks like it can be discounted. Cheers in advance if anyone can help. Order both, and return one, is the plan otherwise. Thanks, Andrew
  2. I bought the car in the end. Turns out the original owner did change the belt after 4 years and only 12k miles, in 2012. So it's still overdue, but not as old as I originally thought. Going to book it in for a change ASAP.
  3. Thanks both. @GreenMachine1.6 Don't think I can find it. Do you know what the subject was? I've read a few similar threads, but of course each situation is a little different. @skomaz Thanks. If I do go for it, it would be first job on the list I think. I've just enquired about another PD 1.9, Passat this time. 2005 / 85k miles, no record of a cambelt change either! They're both pretty cheap, so not sure it's a total deal breaker, but what's with all these cars not having their cambelts changed... ?!?
  4. Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing a pre 2009 Octavia 1.9 TDI PD as cheap diesel long runner. Two main questions: 1) Is this the stronger PD engine? Am I right in my assumption that all pre-2009 1.9 TDI MkII Octavia's are the PD (with the CR coming later)? 2) Cambelt intervals - 80k or 5 years? Any other car specific things, barring the usual used car checks, that I should be aware of or looking out for? I've got one that I'm going to look at tomorrow. A 2008 TDI Elegance which doesn't appear to have had the cambelt changed. It's on 80k miles, so fairly low for the age (not necessarily a good thing). It's cheap enough to factor in a cambelt change with a little discount from the owner. Would anyone consider this a deal breaker? Seems like a long time without a cambelt change. Otherwise the car looks in pretty good nick (with 4 matching decent tyres, which I like to see!). As an aside, I previously inherited a 1.6 TDI Octavia, which I really liked. It was a great runner, however sold it due to failed injectors making it uneconomical to repair. Would happily have another, but my understanding is the 1.9 TDI PD is the stronger and more reliable engine. Also looks more economical, just slightly higher tax. Many thanks in advance for your help.
  5. Hi all, I have suspected injector failure on my 2010 Octavia 1.6 TDI (105,000 miles). The car chugs and has a lumpy idle 80% of the time. It cut out on me a couple of times at low speed. Sounds very "clackety" in the 1000-1500ish rev range. However, it is not showing any codes on an OBD2 reader. Would this indicate it is maybe something else, or is it possible/likely that faulty injectors wouldn't show a code? I've had a local Indy garage have a quick look and test drive. They suspect it's likely injectors, estimating big money to fix it - c. £1,300 inc. new injectors, labour & VAT. They advised against reconditioned ones based on previous experience. I've took the car back home as I'm not willing to spend that on it. Don't actually need it at the min. It was the economical commuter, but no longer in the office due to COVID. Unlikely to be back for quite some months and possibly continuing home working in some capacity... but I digress. I was thinking I could have a go at replacing them myself. It doesn't look like too complicated a job, but I'm absolutely no expert, so might be underestimating it. If go the DIY route, is there a specific injector or supplier anyone would recommend? Or can anyone point me in the direction of tips or guides on the process? A bit hesitant to fork out even on reconditioned injectors in case it doesn't fix it. But also realise that it is worth very little in it's current state. It's likely to be fix & sell or sell as is - I doubt I'll hold on to it. A bit of a ramble there, but any thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.
  6. I emailed the dealer about the mileage discrepancy and he has now corrected it in the ad to 35,326.
  7. It surprised me too! Not sure if it was a bad time to sell, too niche a car or people not liking to buy privately. Probably a combination of all of these. In the end selling to trade was so quick and easy, you can see why it's the preferred option by a lot of people.
  8. Just came across my old car for sale on Autotrader for £7,980 from a dealer in Wales. Thought I'd comment with the Reg: VK61 FRC. So anyone searching on Google will see this thread. It seems to have lost 2,000 miles since I sold it! Just an innocent typo I'm sure...
  9. Well this all sounds depressingly familiar... Here are my threads re pretty much the same issue: Original thread: Follow up thread, nicely titled 'Getting royally f***ed by Skoda' lol. Not bitter at all. Mine was older and I received 60% goodwill contribution after a bit of a fight. I'd be happy to share details with you if you'd like. May not help however, as I knew of others who had higher goodwill contributions than me, I got some details from these people but Skoda were not interested. I dare say I could have got more if I went down the legal route, but I just didn't have the will. Good luck to you if you do, I hope it works out and will follow with interest.
  10. Those green ones are cool, would look nice on a white car! Would need lowered though for sure. Not convinced about green wheels, green car myself, but different strokes. I think 17's are best size for the vRS (looks wise).
  11. *** Final price reduction *** £5,999 Looking for a sale in the next week, or it's going to go to trade. So here's your chance to pick up a real bargain.
