  1. slow wipers is normal when they get rusted up.. strip and regrease is one option, main dealers would just replace the wiper mechanism.. not starting and not connecting to diagnostics.. presume main electrical contacts are clean and not oxidized... ? would look for earthing problems as a first call. not yet a diagnostic problem... still a more basic electrical problem i reckon.
  2. well if it has the 43kW engine 135 then it is used in the favorit as well. apologies - my look up charts weren't showing carb parts easily on the felicia. am not kindly eluding any request - i am ignoring it ;-) i am not a czech citizen, but am busy enough, so am not going to go looking for obd stuff on a carbed car, that'd be a waste of both our time :-D as said before - back to basics on this engine. lots of these were used as upgrades in estelles etc as well with fabbed slanted carb mounts.. it is the same engine by all accounts.
  3. bet it really is the favorit engine then - most likely had a transplant after the original engine self destructed? so your haynes book isn't going to be so much help - though the basic block / head is much the same. you're best looking at the engine to see what sensors you can find - rather than looking here :-) - but you'll not find many.. oil pressure, temp guage.. the obd socket might still show the immobiliser on the car with vagcom, but not much else. late favorit injected cars had a diagnostic port under the bonnet, on which VAG COM did work -but just for the engine. but a hunting idle on a carb car? - back to basics me thinks.. HTH.
  4. masster - if you know what is needed then pls have a recheck to see if it is a carb or a single point injection throttle body. the obd socket can be for the timing ecu, the immobiliser too... felicias have chipped keys for example, etc.. i am in the middle of czech republic and see felicias everyday.. but dont think i've seen any or many carbed felicias BTW as for tweaking - best just do basics first anyway. properly clean fuel / air / plugs..etc etc..
  5. could be a favorit engine in there perhaps? if it really is a carb engine then the idle wouldn't move around on its own much i'd have thought though. for a single point injected engine - get carb cleaner, get the throttle body cleaned up and reset / unplug battery ecu for a period. - then report back with any news..
  6. as promised, got my cable replaced under warranty - year and a half old and no hassles to swop it over . am now back in action !
  7. CAN not ready was the problem - dual k lines were showing OK, otherwise settings as already written above. have been in touch directly with Uwe, looks like my cable has a defective CAN section so isn't communicating as it should. will be sending my cable back for replacement/repair - is still under warranty. 1yr + 1/2 old but covered for 2yrs :-) i will report back when i have a new cable !
  8. 908.1 vcds, 1.81 cable type, showing K1 ok and K2 ok, but it won't let me get into instruments or bits...
  9. nope this one wasn't off ebay, though i did have a std chinese usb one before just for reading codes, - but i bought a proper one to get full functionality :-) on the label - HEX-CAN Dual K/CAN inteligent USB interface. OFICIÁLNÍ STÁNKY VAG-COM 907.9 Autodiagnostika VAG - diagnostika bought from the offical dealer in czech - ( i needed the czech language too ) it up to now had performed fine, but i don't think i'd tried any dual K cars. Like i said the cable looked like it was flashed on the last vcds - i'll plug into a car and read the numbers/cable software later on this morning.. i will be contacting the dealer too, but i expect they will be slow to react to enquiries... they are czech :-)
  10. I have hex-can usb, and recently after a software update (908) - the cable seems to have been flashed and updated too. So anyway - i can see engine and auto gearbox, but not cluster or anything else.. I thought this cable was dual K line compatible.. so what should i be checking first pls ?? many thanks for any ideas..
  11. yep. three crocodile clip leads do the trick too :-)
  12. am having the same 1.6engine issues here on a felicia, no signs of it taking via 98, will retry 01 and listening carefully :-) and also have the temps playing up - if you view only channel one then the coolant temp is correct, but try to view channel 1 and 2 and the air/coolant temp changes/swops and misleads you into looking at faults that arent there !!!! no faults, battery ok, temps ok... all checked out fine. but showing signs of being lean - lambda sensor looks ok - but low voltage indicating lean... will retry channel 1 to reset and will cross my fingers too :-)
  13. 3rd party cable doesn't like multiple faults - it only shows the first text - so it becomes a pain sometimes. it also isn't can so newer cars of your mates or in future can't be scanned. the obd function on the genuine cable can be very handy too - again for sorting your mates (NON VAG) cars.. they may have a scanner for their cars - but live temp readouts can help LOADS :-)
  14. not quite true - that one - thin oils can wreck engines too, otherwise we'd all be using sewing machine oils & WD40 :P - thinner oils give better mileage on better made engines with close tolerances. but you are right - too thick/cold oil isn't good either...
  15. get a vagcom cable and see what temp the motor is reading - is the fan is coming on? then the water must be hot :-) if its just the sensor for the display reading low then either change it - or don't worry about it until it dies properly.
