  1. All of the above. As specified in manual. Assume garage is competent as owner bought same model Fabia, for son's fiance a few years. Been going there 10 years also local Mot centre. Car in good shape. Done 55,000 miles. I was so surprised when car slowed to stop and EPC light came. Started OK after few minutes stop and light has not recurred since. Will take into garage ASAP but not possible before end of week.
  2. SKODA, fabia, 1.4 automatic. VGC. Had full service two weeks ago inc. test drive by trusted garage. No issues found. Asked them to check out heater as seemed to be behaving erratically. Said No problems found. Probably slow to warm up in extreme cold. On long drive last week, AC not working correctly. Heating but not cooling. On same drive hit heavy fog at night on bendy country road so driving slowly when EPC light came on and car stopped. Waited few minutes, turned back on and revved engine. No EPC light came on and drove 15 miles to destination OK. Two short journeys since no problem. No recurrence. Checked brake lights all working OK. Could slow driving in low gear for long period trigger EPC light on or even AC fault? . Cannot get car into garage until new year.
  3. My 05 skoda fabia automatic 1.4 is in excellent condition. Low mileage regular services. Passed Mot with flying colours 2 months ago. No adviseries. Few days, ago braked at low speed to park and felt what seemed like a judder or even micro skid to left on tiny patch of oil. Did it again several times same day and next day Had been thinking brakes did not seem to be quite as sharp as usual. So took it into garage today. Guys have been all over it. All brakes in excellent condition. Diagnostics report no engine or braking errors Garage experienced with range. Mystified. Will try test run themselves tomorrow. Meanwhile anyone experienced this?
  4. My car is mostly driven locally in the week but at least twice a month I do a 40 mile round trip see my grandchildren and twice a month I do a 140 mile round trip on the motorway to see my sister. This has always been enough to keep the battery charged until this year. My car did the 140 mile journey to my sister's, on a new battery , the last time I used it. (BTW OHs car does do long runs for his business regularly and is in regular use.,) I do not accept that suddenly I am not doing enough long runs to keep it charged. It has never ever previously been so flat I could not open it remotely. It was this afternoon. I was surprised it needed a new battery back in January which is why I specifically got it checked out in its service last month. Leaving aside alien force fields. I am thinking there must be something causing my battery to have started going flat. I was hoping other Skoda Fabia users might have some relevant experience to offer..
  5. I have a much cherished carefully maintained 2004 fabia automatic. It has, until lockdown, been driven regularly locally and at least twice a month taken for a 70 mile motorway spin to my sister's. In. Mid January 2020 I came out to find a flat battery - last replaced around 18 months before. Breakdown service advised replacing it and having got started, I drove round to Halfords and bought a new one. In mid February my car passed its MOT with flying colours. In March, three weeks ago, it had a full service and I specifically asked them to test the battery , that it had no dead cells, was charging properly and there were no potential drains on it while parked. They reported it was fine. I drove to my sister's on 15 March but have not driven it since. This morning I came out to go round to the supermarket for our weekly shop (OH has been doing since lock down but his car had flat battery today.) Mine battery too was as dead as a rock. Not even enough oomph to unlock for via central locking. Never ever been that flat. Lights def not left on. I can see it from my kitchen window. Breakdown serviceman checked alternator cable at my request and said it was fine. No internal lights staying on. I have no stereo system and in any case I like to drive in silence. But battery was totally flat. Never had that before. New in January. Then OH revealed he had replaced the battery three months ago on his Peugeot Partner. Yet he had had to get breakdown service out to start him with a flat battery 3 weeks ago so afterwards took it for a spin on the motorway to get it charged up. Yet both cars totally flat today . Parked outside near each other. Mystified. (While weworking on my car breakdown man got a call for another flat battery round the corner from me. ) Could it be caused by mast of some sort or some thing else. There is a film studio nearby. But it is closed now. Anyone got any ideas?
  6. Engine turns and seems about to start up but never quite manages to do so..
  7. Ok it is regularly serviced, has full service history and in very good condition - sailed through its MOT two weeks ago. Then a week later with a new battery installed, I had starting problem described. I booked it in for service and mentioned starting problems and they promised to check it out. They are very experienced well regarded garage. Incidentally they didn't say they hadn't checked the engine coolant sensor. When I picked it up, they said they had checked all the usual suspects and could find nothing wrong. In fact I mentioned the engine coolant sensor among a little list I had complied of possible causes and they said they had checked it wasn't that. Mgrf: it sounds a lot like your issue. When I turn the ignition, everything springs into life, dash lights up and engine starts to engage then stops . I am only a lay person but the best way to desctibe it is to say it sounds like it won't "catch." Normally it fires up after another 3 or 4 attempts at starting atbut most recently this did not happen.
  8. I have a Fabia 1.4 around 10years old (petrol, automatic, low annual mileage 52,000 miles total) and overall a good little runner. From time to time however it won't start. Plenty of battery, engine just fails to engage. Had breakdown service out a couple of times and on second time he said they get air lock in fuel system from time time, you just need to pump throttle a bit and it will start. (Just to add I never let fuel tank run down to empty.) Last week it sailed through its MOT and I celebrated with a new battery. Two days later it wouldn't start again and this time it took around 10 minutes to get it to engage. The battery was clearly not flat but the engine would not turn over. A delivery driver parked nearby wandered over and said it was the alternator. Was about to call breakdown service when it sprung into life. No problems since. In garage for service yesterday they could not find any cause as nothing wrong with starter, alternator, electrics or battery. Any ideas on problem.? Would can of Easy Start help? I have noticed it seems to happen after it has been very cold overnight. Car is parked outside.
  9. Garage just phoned to say it needs 4 new coil packs, it is known issue for all cars in the VAG group and the garage replaces them all the time. I think there was a recall sometime back, before I owned it, but in any case my car still has the originals so has done well to get this far.
  10. breakdown service came out and basically said that or spark plugs although they look OK. got it started but it is def misfiring. Booked into garage for tuesday.
  11. I uprated mine to whatever most powerful model is in Halfords with no probs.
  12. I have not so far had any problems with my Skoda Fabia 1.4. I bought in 2 years ago in vgc 1.4 2005 model and it has only done around 43000 miles. Fitted a new battery around 15 months ago. Had several long runs on fast roads in last ten days. Last used on Wednesday. Fine then. Got in tonight and started it up, engine turned over and coughed as if it was about to start, then wheezed a bit and stopped. Now will not start, just wheezes. No warning lights or error messages on dash on Wednesday. Lights and dash and door locks still working. Not due a service. Any ideas? Have a load of stuff for my sister who is moving house, in the boot since sunday. could that press on door lock and turn on light and drain battery? I am sure headlights were not left on. Any other possible causes?
  13. Thanks for all the advice. A number of people have recommended Philips Xtreme bulbs but they seem to come in several different types H1 , H4, H7 and I cannot see from looking them up, what the difference is between them. Anyone know?
  14. Do you have any photos showing the difference front panels?
  15. I have a Skoda Fabia ambiente circa 2005-06. It had only light use (one previous owner) when I bought it, is in good running order with low mileage (35,000miles) so good to go for a while yet. Increasingly I notice that motorways lights are being turned off and the other day I was driving on the M27-M3 on a very dark damp overcast night and became aware that there were several stretches where the cats eyes were completely worn out and not functioning. I started thinking some brighter headlamps might be handy. The next day I spoke to Dave at my local garage (not a Skoda dealership) and he said Skoda only recommend fitting the original spec headlamps. If I wanted something brighter I would need to get an OEM model say from Halfords. Has anyone here changed their original Fabia headlamps for something brighter? Was it difficult? What did you replace the original bulbs with? Halogen or Xenon? Where from? How effective are they? If non approved by Skoda do I need to get them on my insurance? Thanks in advance for any feedback
