Detailing / PC session

I bought my Octy II last September (just under two years old), and although I've done some basic washing and waxing since then, last Saturday was the time for its first big detailing session.
With invaluable help and advice from Wardy (and the use of his Porter Cable polishing machine) these are the results.....

This is the car before we started...

It cleans up reasonably well, but the previous owner seemed to have never heard of the two bucket wash method, so quite a bit of swirling was apparent on closer inspection...

First step was a quick last with the Kaarcher pressure washer, followed by a good soak in snow foam...

Then a two bucket wash (using Megs Gold Class Shampoo) followed by cleaning with Megs Clay and Quick Detailing spray. (The clay lifted some contamination, although the car wasn't too bad to start with). Finally wipe with microfibe cloths and we got....

We then used 3M tape to mask off the bumper and side trims...

Out came Steve's Porter Cable - once all round with the Mezerna Intensive polish and then a second treatment of each panel with the finer version (which I'm sure has a more technical name!). We set the PC on speed 2 to work the polish into each panel, followed by a good polish on Speed 5, and a final going over on Speed 6...

Next step was to apply a sealant (oops - forgot the name of what we used here too). We lift this to cure for 30 mins and by then the depth of colour was beginning to show...

Our collection of cleaning products...

Finally we waxed the car twice using Collinite 476S wax (very impressed with this stuff), did the tyres with Megs Endurance High Gloss Tyre Gel, and exterior trim with another of Wardy's special potions!
The finished result...

And the obligatory reflections shots...

A massive thanks to Wardy (Steve) for all his help and guidance - it was a long day (6hrs plus) but worth every minute...

Re: Detailing / PC session

Very nice, but you now have to make sure you keep it like that till the Czech trip in September

Oh, a little styling tip just to give it that 'finishing touch', silver indicator bulbs would set that colour off a treat

- cheers Len They're my omnipresent car cleaning shorts

I'm sure we can come to some sort of arrangement Len, for the your lovely vRS.

The products Andy can't remember are
  • Second polish was Mezerna Final Polish II
  • Sealant used was Klasse All-in-One
  • Trim was cleaned, where necessary, with Meg's Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner (#39) and dressed with 303 Aerospace Protectant

Work towels and cleaning cloths used were a mixture of Poorboy's and Meguiars. Lake Country orange grade pads were used on the PC for the first coat of polish, with an LC white pad used for the Final Polish.

Yep, was a good detail - was pleased with the result and the weather held out pretty well for us

Lokks like a job 'well done'

OMG
Was that 'frowny' Wardy in those piccies ?

Y'know - he 'almost' looks human

+ a lot younger than his Avatar.
Unsure if this Malthouse Meet thing is going to be a good idea ?

Mind, if he'll do my car for free then I might consider being a 'friend'

Guess you're appreciating the badinage then, 'cheeky' ?

Hee Hee

Oh, sorry if you're the 'sensitive' type.
Then again, you can't be - wearing shorts like that

Re: Detailing / PC session

Looking good Andy

I recommend a wheel protectant such as CG wheel guard. Stops brake dust clinging. The 476 is great stuff, will last for months.

Oh and by the way, the 3M tape is supposed to cover the bumper trim

Re: Detailing / PC session

We were gonna use Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, but didn't really have time.

3M tape did the job fine as it was, just to protect over-run from the PC at the top edge.

Nice work.

Looking at buying one of the Ultimate detailing machine when they come out as the furby is in much need of a detail. Stupid amount of swirl marks and scratches.
