Guide : How to fit Leon front splitter

Fitting the Seat Leon front splitter is quite easy but the part needs cutting in places to fit.

First you will need a mate to help as someone needs to hold the splitter in place while you mark where it fits. A cutting tool and 14 self tapping screws will be needed. Part number is for the splitter is 1ML 805 903

I decided to fit the splitter so it went smoothly around the very edge of the bumper;

The part needs to bend slightly so to stop it from deforming and giving a crease I cut 2 small triangles so that it bends easier;

Next smooth off the top of the 2 lugs in the centre of the splitter - 2mm above the plasic bit that is in them so you can screw them in later on;

Then use some masking tape (and your mate!) to line up the splitter;

Ensure you tape it on so you can stand back and ensure its even.

Then drill through the small clips on the splitter into the spoiler - they have a small edge on them so best to file these down first so they are smooth. Screw into the bumper all around the edge;

You will need to cut about 3cm off each edge so it sits in front of the mudflap.
Finally you'll need to small headed screws (I had to grind some down to fit), screw in the 2 lugs to the bumper. I also used some black stickyflex to help adhesion;

Stand back and admire

Re: Guide : How to fit Leon front splitter

Great guide mate.

Couple of quick Q's

*did you use any other adhesion apart from screws?
*where the screws self tapping?
*What are self tapping screws (sits in ignorant corner)
*and finally did you drill any holes in the skoda bumper first for the screws or just screw em in?

Sorry for the ignoramus questions just wanna make sure its correct.

Thanks

Alex the stupid. ;-D

Self tapping screws are screws with a head on them a bit like the tip of a drill bit, Therefore you dont need to drill a hole toscrew them in, as you start to screw the 'drillbit head' digs into the material and forces the screw through the material.
They are available in any DIY store and make it alot easier than predrilling holes for normal screws etc

Thanks guys

I used screws all the way around just straight into the bumper (but did drill a much thinner hole first just to help the screw), but used this silicone type glue under the 2 centre lugs to stick them before screwing them in as its difficult to enter a screw accurately into them as they are so thin.
Think its called stickyflex and comes in black, you can see it on the picture. You could get away without this but mine had about a 1mm gap at the top of the lugs so just used it to fill them in.

Re: Guide : How to fit Leon front splitter

Can we get some front pics of the car with the splitter? it'd be nice to see how it looks on a Red vRS, hopefully when I fit mine (now I have the info should be this weekend) I will create an album of what it looks like on all the vRS's.

Could everyone please take some pics then i'll create a post (mods if you could make it sticky) so everyone can see what it looks like on different colours?

Re: Guide : How to fit Leon front splitter

I may be in a minority here...

I don't like the way the centre part of the splitter appears in comparison to the Styling of the Skoda front bumper. The radiator apperture doesn't line up. The centre bar on the splitter needs to be wider to match the front bumper.

I think it can be made to work but I also think that it may end up being a lot of work unless you cut the centre chunk out and use the remaining two pieces as lip corners.

Think I'll have a play with some images.

I s'pose anyone with the same POV as the camera would have more on their mind than just, "tut the styling quite odd" as they'd have just been knocked over.

It definitely needs work rather than just bolting on though. I think losing the center bar would give it an edginess if the sides bits are tailored to the apperture. A bit F360ish without being obvious.

As an aside, I went looking for splitters on the internet last night <thud>. Have you seen the prices!? Add the initials DTM to a piece of formica and it's Ł100+.

Think I'd rather spend Ł20 and take it plus a bit of A4 with my thought to a local fabricator/bodyshop.

J.

I would do mine, but it's not RS, so too much variables in the equation ...
