Does anyone know if the 3.6 V6 is just a de-tuned version of what is in the Passat R36, or has some compromises been made somewhere?

Is the DSG box the same as the R36 as well?

Acoording to wikipedia (Which can be as reliable as an alfa) this is the only 3.6V6 that VAG produce, so I can only assume it's a de-tuned version. 20 horses have gone missing:(

Have driven the 4x4 version of this and it handles brilliantly. The power is very well distributed. Wouldnt be surprised to see the boys in blue taking a few on for undercover cars.

i have driven the r36 and thought it felt slow and and old manish, not a patch on the r32.

It does weigh a whole lot more and its a luxuary model not a sports hatch.

Were both DSG?

both were dsg, i drive many vag cars, personally i find the audi s3 the best car for handling and sheer enjoyment.

I'd agree with you on that (I also drive many VAG cars) however the R50 takes some beating for feeling like the king of the road..lol

Indeed it is, however Porsche nicked it of VW first, dont know anyone else that have been producing narrow angle V6's let alone for as long as VW.

To answer the original question

Yes apparantly (according to my local skoda dealer) it is a detuned version of the R36 engine. Its down by 36bhp (skoda is 260bhp & R36 is 296bhp) and has 20lb/ft of torque less (skoda 238lb/ft R36 258lb/ft). However all this is just down to the ECU Settings so a drop of Revo may sort it to R36 standards or even better

0-62mph is 6.6 secs for Superb and 5.6 secs for R36 (amazing what 36bhp and 20lb/ft can do)

So just a remap would see increased power gain? No cams or ported heads etc.? That could be good....
