Yeti Tyre and Rim Guide

The Plumber

Recommended Posts

Looks more hopeful , but chart does not show current 1.4tsi 110kw engine.

Is the chart for 2WD models or 4WD models.

Pity downloadable manuals dont have these charts !

It does show that size OK for the 125kw model.

I take it it's 2wd and 4wd.

It is from a downloaded manual 11-2014

I think that is the only one that has it in.

I have the horrible  feeling that my current winter tyres   - Continental 205/55/16 91H on 7J x 16 steel wheels - are not approved for the 1.4tsi due to their 91H rating.

Am I correct ?

If you google 'winter tyres' some of the sites will allow you to enter the car model and give you recommendations for tyre size/ratings. Hope this helps.

Hello all,

Thanks for this very informative topic. However I still have some things to clear before I hand out my credit card for a new set of complete wheels.

So I have a 1.4 92kW 2wd Yeti which came with 7Jx16 ET45 wheels and 215/60 95H summer tyres.

In the winter the car will see plenty of snow but hopefully not too much ice so dedicated winter tyres are a must. Changing only the tyres will cost me 100 euros/change so twice per year will be around 200. At this price I

consider buying some complete wheels.

The Skoda dealer proposed me some steel wheels +winter tyres at the price of 800 euros which is way too much, the same is around 500 online so I started looking for something online.

In the car's Certificate of Conformity for wheel/tyre combination I have the following: (I exclude the 17")

205/55 R16 91H M+S 7Jx16 ET45

205/55 R16 91H M+S 6Jx16 ET50

215/60 R16 95V M+S 7Jx16 ET45

And now come the questions:

1. Why is there a higher speed rating for the winter 215/60, higher than the rest of the winter tyres but also than the summer ones, which is also H? Does it mean that if I buy a 215/60 H winter I might invalidate my insurance?

(car's top speed being 187km/h, V is 240km/h that's a lot of margin. At my previous car I always bought the same speed index as the summer one)

2. Why are there different load indexes, from 91 to 95, car weight being the same, right? Searching for XL tyres reduces my options

3. What are the technical aspects the manuals talks about that prevent mounting snow chains in front for 215/60 tyres?

4. What type of wheel (steel or alloy) do you recommend for winter conditions (snow, ice, plenty of salt on the road)?

5. Can I use the same bolts between wheels?

Thanks and I appreciate any answer.

1/ Impossible to answer as we don't know what the rules are in Luxembourg. You would have to ask your insurance company.

2/ Pass.

3/ There isn't room between the tyre and the suspension strut.

4/ Up to you, really. Some people prefer steels because of the possible salt damage.

5/ Yes.

Sorry to seem a complete idiot, but this id all very confusing.

I have a 2016 1.2TSI Outdoor 2wd dsg Yeti. It has the 225/17 tyre size on it.

Am I able (legally/insurance-wise) to use some 16 inch rims instead? Does the ride improve At all with 16 inch rims?

Many thanks,

Robert

As long as you fit the 16" wheel and tyre combinations that are listed here, which is a copy of the Skoda approved sizes, and you inform your insurance company I can't see any problem.
I cannot comment on the ride quality.

[Please see the next post regarding 15" wheel information]

You can fit 195/65R15 tyres if you have 280mm/288mm diameter front discs.

15" wheels will clear the front brake discs/calipers if you have 280mm/288mm diameter front discs. Some Yetis came with 312mm front brake discs, so these models need at least 16" wheels to clear the front brake discs/calipers.

You can get top brand winter tyres in size 195/65R15 from about £50 each and top brand 205/55R16 winter tyres from about £70 each. These are both much cheaper than the 215/60R16 size.

195/65R15 will be more comfortable than 205/55R16. 205/55R16 has about the same amount of sidewall as 225/50R17 so there shouldn't be a big difference in ride comfort between these two sizes. However, the 225/50R17 tyre size is far more expensive than the 205/55R16 tyre size.

First thing you might want to do is get a rough measurement of the diameter of your front brake discs to see if you can use 15" tyres. You don't need an exact measurement, just see if they are about 288mm in diameter or 312mm in diameter.

Please ignore the above advice!
15" wheels have NEVER been a fitment on Skoda Yeti's at ANY time and have NEVER been approved for them.

A stunning amount of information thank you. Could I pick your brains please?

I note in your list that the 1.6 tdi Yeti has 205/60R16 tyres on what would seem to be the same rims as my 2010 2.0 Yeti 4x4 which is fitted with 215/60R16 as standard onto my rims

I have a near mint set of snow tyres from a previous car which are 205/60R16 and wondered if they would be ok to put onto my current rims as they would appear to be the same as the ones used on the 1.6 Yeti..or have I missed something?

Pearls of wisdom gratefully accepted.

My Yeti model and wheel type attached.

This link shows the 16" alloy rims that were available for the Yeti.

All have a specification of 7Jx16 ET45 5/112 57.1

This link on skoda-parts.com shows that two 16" steel rims are available for the Yeti.

https://www.skoda-parts.com/catalog/yeti/spare-parts/accessories/wheels-steel-aluminium/steel-wheel-577.html

One has a specification of 7Jx16 ET45 5/112 57.1 (just like the 16" alloy rims) and the other has a specification of 6Jx16 ET50 5/112 57.1

Only 205/55R16 is approved by Skoda for fitment to the 6Jx16 ET50 rim.

Lots to read on here, but can anyone confirm if some 16" alloys I've seen advertised for sale as 'OEM Yeti PCDx5 112 and offset 45' would fit my 2017 Yeti TDI 4x4 please, or is that not enough information to go on?

Yes, they should fit.  I suspect they're also 7J rims.

The seller should be able to supply the OEM number. This is cast onto the back of all OEM alloy rims. It looks something like 5L0601025M 8Z8

Skoda online parts catalogue. This page shows 16" alloy rims for the Yeti.

That part number is for Skoda spectrum alloys and are correct fitting for Yeti.

I had them as winter wheels on my previous Yeti.

I've purchased the 16" Spectrum alloys.

I've currently got 17" Skoda Origami alloys with normal tyres, which I was going to clad with All Seasons.

Now I've got the Sectrums I might put some winter tyres on them, and alternate between the two sets each year, or maybe put All Seasons on them. Not sure yet.
