hi. can anyone give me advice on how to install a new brake light switch on my mk 1 Octavia.old one kept sticking so my dealer has given me a new updated green model which differs slightly in shape and size.have been told that you need to depress brake pedal first, then insert and twist new switch. is this correct.
thanks

I only did this a couple of months back and i can't remember the exact details - however i remember it was obvious

ie if you start twisting and it doesn't move, depress the pedal and it will

the important part is when you put it back in - it will twist and stop, but then needs to twist a little more to lock in, or the switch doesn't work

EDIT:

just looked back and found my old thread, in which i was directed to http://forums.vwvort...read?id=1158315

I know this is an old thread but I had this problem earlier this evening. After following all the advice on this and other threads I took the switch off, took it apart and cleaned it with contact cleaner. When I put it back in all the brake lights were on. I realised that I had put the 4 pin connector back the wrong way around. I took it apart put it in the other way fixed it in position and it works fine. I will get a new one but at least I will be able to work tomorrow. So thank you to all that contributed to the forum it was great information.

I got mine from vw as skoda didn't have any in stock, not worth buying from euro car parts as it's only a quid or two less and it's probably an inferior part like most switches and sensors are compared to vw ones

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!
