Castrol Edge 5W30 is what a few use including myself.

Fuchs gt1 5-40 does not require regular top ups

Good at cold start up as well £35 approx

Locate your local German and Swedish AKA G&S motor factor

They retail prices at good prices

Skoda recommend Shell Helix on all promotional stuff and in my handbook, however local Skoda main dealer recommended that I use only;

Quantum Longlife III 5w30 5 ltrs @ £42.00 Part No. ZGB115QLB00501

Not sure who Quantum are in the oil world, but no different I guess from Vokswagen Longlife III oil or even Halfords oil - all supplied in different cartons by a big oil company (probably Castrol, BP, Shell or Mobil) ...

If you use the correct recommended manufacturers oil then they can't say nowt in the event of a warranty/insurance claim.

Eurocarparts recommend this: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/engine-oils-and-car-fluids/engineoils/5w30-engine-oil/?521771021&0&cc5_247

Using the Briskoda discount (-25%) code brings it down to around £36 for 4 litres. It is however currently available in Cost-co for under £30 (4 litres). Admittedly Cost-co membership is not free.

Both of these prices are however a vast improvement on Halfords at £46.99 for 4 litres.

You'll need to make shure it meets the minimum VAG spec, for your engine which should be quoted in your owners manual. It'll be something like 507.00.

Castrol do various 'edge' oils to suit different manufacturers so make sure you get the right VAG one. I've seen others have got theirs from Asda, which apparently (and not surprisingly) is cheaper than halfords

i was using castrol edge until i went to TPS (trade parts specialist) they do all vw,audi,skoda,seat genuine parts for the dealers,They sold me some oil which dealer garages use,theres two kinds one for 10k service or a longlife 20k service, he also said it was actually castrol edge but in a different bottle especially for the dealers.i think the 10k service oil was 5/30. good place to go and very helpful and all parts are genuine and come with the 2yr warranty.

http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ here they are.
