'Water Ingress Problem'........SOLVED!

Perhaps some fool has glued it on for you?!

It pulls straight up at 90 degrees to the screen pretty much.  It is just a flat bit of plastic pushed into a tight metal U, which is itself glued to the bottom of the screen.

The times I've taken it off I've used a flat plastic jemmy like the following to get an end up (be careful not to put too much pressure on the screen , you could crack it...) http://www.cleverproducts.co.uk/bojo-blue-genius-10-piece-trim-removal-tool-kit-snap-on-off-trim

I've never had a problem with the trim breaking, but I hear it is quite brittle.

I'm all sorted now, its a lot easier just ripping it off, I think I was being too much of a fanny with it lol.

It was quite pleasurable smashing the b@stard off.

Now all I need is a new panel lol.

If you don't want to follow the DIY guidance, you could try these independent VW specialists that both have a good reputation (not sure if they do this kind of electrical work though):

http://www.autohausdolby.co.uk - near the arena in Sheffield

http://www.volks-tek.com - in Dronfield

The cost could be quite high as if you've had water ingress and the wiring is corroded it might be very labour intensive to fix. If you haven't already had water leakage via the pollen filter / plenum chamber I'd recommend you get the preventative work done as soon as possible as it is a case of when not if.

hello iv been getting the same leak as all superb cars do, been following this link for a while now and had to try and fix my car this weekend as the wife was driving and the dash board lights went off, now iv lost all internal lights for the last three years and also the front windows went in the last month,

so parked the car up on a drive to take a look at the problem. took the passenger seat out first well undid it and moved it to the drivers side as i didn't want to disconnect it as it has airbags, this came out very easily. disconnect battery. now the seat was out the way the carpet came up a lot better than with it left in. now for anyone thinking of doing this go for it, i'm not into electrics. so first i took the large roll of wires and undid all the tape that hols them together. now what your looking for is a few wire that go together and Finnish up with a plastic seal tube at the end think theirs about ten of them all together tons of colour wires. cut the plugs off, on mine they were all corroded. so this was the problem why things are not working. iv checked the rest and most were like this. taped then all back up and put the battery back on. bingo all work cant believe i put it off for so long. im having to wait for the carpet to dry as this was very wet.

My car or wifes is a skoda superb 2003 elegance 1.9 tdi mk1

if anyone has one of these and have these problems do it yourself really i found it to be very easy and i was very worried about doing it.

but must stress that this fixed the electrics and not the water leak, you will need to sort this out even if you think your car is ok. at least take out the plugs under the battery.

and the pollen filer need looking at too.

check for link on the posts above as i did as their is a good link on how to fix it better than i have properly explained. as i said very easy to fix the electrics but the filter is a nightmare.

ok hope this helps people out and goodluck.

Hi guys
Excellent work here guys
I am now recent owner of 1.9 85kw 2007 - very cool car
I have read this forum up and down before purchase and after. First thing i did was the pollen filter seal ( i was not yet leaking hard - only few drops) did it with the putty thing and it seams it does its job well. There was pool in the battery compartment as well - did that too. So far so good. Would like to thank you all for the great tips and just for the record - this is a great forum.
Before purchase i have noticed the parking sensor problem as well but due to the posts here i thought to buy ebay ones - not doing it immediately, there were a week or to of sunny days - and the sensors started to work. Again with the rain they failed. Again with 14 days of sunny days, started to work again. Then i have taken them off and sealed them with silicone all around as well the edges where is the plastic sealing on the top. Put them back and they are working ever since - A lot of rainy days along but still working. fingers crossed - this should be solution to this problem ( org. sensors are pretty expensive).
I do have a problem that remains. Interior light is intermittent (only on drivers door open). I was pointing on microswitch, but it turns out that it is working on rainy days or few days more, but not when is hot. Does anyone has/had a similar issue?
Or if not a microswitch - what else can it be?
Once again - Thanks for this form and to you all.

Well it happened on mine now, surprising really as I did replace the seal under the pollen filter box with silicone sealant. I guess I can't have gotten it all completely sealed. Anyway I took it to my local auto electrician and it was swimming under the driver's seat carpet apparently but he fixed it all and repaired 22 wires as they were all rotten. Only cost me 100 quid which I thought was a bargain and now that intermittent central locking on the OSR door is back working as it should.

Some questions though if I may.

1. The tray the pollen filter sits in - should this have a lid? Looks for all the world like it should.

2. What's the best thing to use to re-seal the air intake box? I was looking at sikaflex caravan sealant as this remains flexible once cured. Any experiences?

3. Realistically how much longer will the car go on for? It's the 2006 1.9 PD engine and it seems fine but the car has now done 183k. I'm trying to get a feel for whether to have it all cleaned up, new tyres, new brakes, fix the reversing sensors etc. Or perhaps buy a newer one? It's only my work hack so it doesn't have to be cosmetically perfect but I do try to keep the mechanicals in tip top condition. I'm just loathe to spend 6 or 7 hundred quid if it's likely to clap out anytime soon. The car's probably not worth much more than 500 quid now although for what it does it's worth much more to me.

Thanks. Dom.

Hi Folks,

I recently bought a 2009 Superb II. Does anyone know if there are water ingress issues with the Mk II also or is it only in the Mk I Superb (pre-2009)?

I wasn't aware of this issue, so haven't checked my car for water properly. when I bought the car, I did check the carpet and it was dry?. I'm happy to do some checks and preventative measures, if needed but I'm hoping this is only a problem with the Mk 1 Superb and it was rectified for the newer model, Mk 2?

My first car many years ago was a clio, with an after factory sunroof, which leaks all the time. there is NOTHING WORSE than water in your car:(

thanks folks

John

Check in the MK2 forums... :)   There was at least one post with an owner with ingress, I recall they never got back with details of where it was coming in.  There certainly isn't as well known an issue as there is on Mk1.

The MK2 Superb is a completely different car to the MK1, different platform, totally different design. It won't share the problem with the MK1. Use the MK2 forum for any common problems with a MK2, all the info you need will be there.

Hi,

I've bought a mark 1 2005 with ingress :(. After reading through this thread (which I'm going to reread a fare few times) I think I'm going to have a go at rectifying it myself. Even thought I'm the least practical person on the planet. I think I can get my head around most of it. But I've never ever attempted soldering in my life.

Is there another easier way of fixing corroded wires for a clumsy oaf such as myself?

Thanks

Cp

I bought a mk1 superb few days ago and got a question. In boot you have small pockets on both sides and they are very wet. How to fix that?

i had the same problem, look at the some of the post from this page it will tell you how to fix it. if you dont fix it it will start rotting your wires which will start to afect your lights inside your car if not already.

here are some photos of my skoda superb 2003 elegance. all the water rotted the wiring. ended up stripping the wire back then crimping the wire together and wrapping back up with tape. hope this helps people see the problem why the lights inside your car dont work, plus other problems.

now all my lights work puddle lights, internal lights and electric windows all work now and have had no more problems with them.

please note that you must stop the water coming in as this will only happen again

While you are in there the cable bundle need opening up to check for correded joints hidden inside it and also in the rear footwell, where will be more water and some more connections inside the wiring bundle.

Best to do it all and know it's fixed, rather than have to get under there again!

Yes you need to take the front seat out as well, I undid it and rested it on the drivers side. Best to do that then you can lift the full carpet up. When you do all this you will see that the water sits right where the wire sit. Untie the hole of the wire bundle and you'll see a few wire crimped together like in my other post above 3rd pic. Look for all of them and cut the wires back as I found most of them had rotted down the wire, look for shiney wire not black or green, crimp them back up and use electric tape to seal them back up. I used cling film to wrap the hole bundle back up when I knew it was ok to try and stop it happening again.

Main thing Befor you do this is remove the battery.

It's not as hard to do as you think.

i fixed it by stripping the wires back from being rotten (took back a few inch's) as their was a lot of wires coming together i used i 15 mm copper pipe cut it down to 10 mm strips and crimped them together (only did this as i didn't have anything else to use) i did this to all the contentions under the carpet (see my photos). then taped each bit then the lot. hope this helps

....wasted a year trying to find someone locally here who could help me with this ...i am going to try and attempt doing by myself.....will be taking it to a garage to get the pollen filter re-sealed first as i don't have a seal for pollen filter to use at home. Or could you suggest one that i could buy off ebay ?

On the uk version car the wire loom runs down the left hand side of the car, its best taking the seat out too. dont forget to check the two plugs in the water run off for the front window, one under the battery and the other on the other side. as for the pollen filter i took it out cleaned it up and re sealed it. check on this site as their lots of people how have took pics as they do it. vw passats the same as the superb as well
