Dual Mass Flywheel converted to Single Mass Flywheel

Recommended Posts

Unfortunatetly my 55 Skoda Octavia TDI PD would not go into gear and had to be towed to the local skoda garage - initial diagnosis is that it needs a new clutch - worried that when they take everything out it might need some extras eg the flywheel replacing - what is the verdict on changing a dual mass flywheel to a single mass flywheel - also has anyone any advice on the cost of a new clutch through a skoda dealership as opposed to going to 'Mr Clutch'! Many thanks

Negotiate prices with a specialist and the dealer.

The official skoda Single Mass Flywheel conversion kit seems like a good idea to me.

had mine done in september this year,if you go/went for the single you wont tell the difference.

they both drive the same, only the single was half the cost, you will find that its best to change both.

p.s i drive a cab round the forest and have so far clocked over 8k miles on a single and not missed a beat.

Having this done to mine at the moment, collect it tomorrow.

I called Skoda for prices, the dual clutch kit was £509.22 + vat, the separates £461+vat and I think the Skoda conversion kit was £488+vat ... Eurocarparts have the dual mass kit for £145 on their website.

Glad I'm not paying for it :)

just had my new SACHS clutch and dmf changed, done about 1000 miles, and experience massive vibrations at around 40mph from engine area and a knocking vibration coming through the clutch while depressed half a course. Bought them original from TPS, who advise me on the model that would go best. I have complained about those sympthoms, after my independent mechanic advise m ethat the problem could only be replated to the dmf,but they were reluctant into exchanging the parts and also they seemed to be unaware of any probs with the new dmf's.

I have contacted skoda customer service who said that they were unaware of any probs. AGAIN, with the dmf's,and they could not do nothing about it unless i would have it checked by a skoda gaarge.

Could you guys advise on this matter?

thxs

I cannot believe that aim the only one experiencing problems with DMF and clutch, after having them replaced with new original parts from TPS? The last posting seen on this site, which matches exactly my findings, was made by TAXI 219 ( banned since!!!),in 2007.

Is it possible that I am the only one? Common......

Have to totally disagree with that.I have just done 12K with my Skoda SMF conversion and its ultra smooth and quiet with great response.Should have been like this from new.I,m very pleased so far.No lumpy tickover/vibrations

I have converted several of these DMF's to solids and have as yet to have a problem. All conversions were carried out on cabs.

hi just read your post was one of these conversions carried out on a tdi octavia with a dsg box, please say yes !!!!

Sorry for the delay in replying Rick. They weren't on DSG boxs, in fact I haven't seen one of these boxes yet.

Is this a manual gearbox with clutch control carried out by the ECU? If that was the case I would assume that other than auto clutch the rest of the system including the flywheel would be conventional parts. Maybe a check of the part numbers would reveal what flywheel is fitted?
