Im used to the passenger footwell leaking at the pollen filter but not the drivers side?

I've just joined the forum to look for help with a leaking problem in my Octavia estate. The passenger footwell is sodden wet after rain (when stationary or driving), and goes back to the rear passenger footwell at times.

What's the deal with the leaking pollen filter then? Is it a common problem?

The drivers side is bone dry.

Cheers.

Coops

it all depends how the car is parked, and also if the bulk head is flooded due to the drain holes being blocked it could come in any where behind the dash, we had a customer come in the other week with a water leak on a passat, there were a puddle in rear due to the car being parked facing up hill. it was the blocked gromets that were at fault

My bora, is the same chassis as octavia and it leaks on the drivers side only, looks like the water comes in over the door seals on the sills? could something be blocked as the water is not draining away properly?

Its driving me insane, and im selling to the mother in law this week, so would rather fix it then face her wrath :giggle:

On the drivers side check where the loom enters the car through the bulkhead, also where the bonnet release cable is routed though.

I have noticed my Octy seemed to to get water on the bottoms of the door rubbers on the drivers side when left in the rain (normally it is parked in the garage). When this occurs, sometimes the seatbelt comes out feeling a little damp too. I suspect this is a leak around the door.

When I had the grommet issue on the passenger side, it was like a swimming pool in the rear footwell!

Can you tell me where these gromets are on the passenger side. I have a lovely yellow vrs and this is the only thing that is wrong. When it rains its like a swimming pool for anybody in the back passnger side.

Cheers

  • 1 year later...

I know this is old, but could this also result in water coming in to the drivers side, or is it only the passenger side?

The car is parked level, and water is getting in on the drivers side somewhere.

Drivers side will be one of two options:

- water leaking in via the bonnet release grommet (or the wiring loom)

- poor door seals (with the rubber seal or the inner door membrane)

For the first point, make sure that the drains from the scuttle area are clear. Remove the rear of the wheel arch liner and clean out the compost!

Right, I thought I had this sorted. But, realised today I've still got a bit of a leak from somewhere.

I've just removed the driver side wheel arch and it's full of muck. This is likely the reason for my water ingress, right?

What does this muck do that causes the water to come in? Is there any permanent fix while I've got the arch liner off?

Drivers side - a blocked liner can cause water ingress either through the loom grommet, or the bonnet release cable....

Basically a once a year clean is enough to keep it fine, unless you park under a tree!

Okay, another related question.

I was parked on a slight slope yesterday (front facing down), and when I returned (there had been a heavy downpour while away) I found this:

Is that common? Does water get in this way? How do you fix it?

Look on the underside of the door, they should be pretty obvious, especially if you have a red car, as if blocked the chances are it would be with black muck!

Looked on the underside of the drivers door. This is what I see:

No holes??

Okay, I managed to take the scuttle panel off. I had asked my mechanic to look at this, after getting it off myself and looking in, I don't think he did.

The hole is slightly different on mine:

Looking above standing at the front of the car:

At a slight angle:

Here's what I'm gathering I need to do:

Make up some kind of plastic/metal plate for this and stick it over the hole with silicone, and then seal around that with more silicone to seal it up completely.

Is that correct?

Is it only that hole I need to deal with do you think?

I appreciate the help.
