I thought I would kick off the Yeti Project section with my Yeti, who is a bit like a Tonka Toy when I'm out with my Land Rover friends......but goes where they can, albeit with less ground clearance.

She is Candy White with Gobi Sand Interior, with almost all the options.

I hate blank buttons Posted Image This also shows the clock which was enabled in the Columbus setup menu.

I picked her up on 8th December 2010 from Allams Skoda, complete with 16" steel wheels and 215/60 R16 Continental WinterContact TS810 tyres. The 17" Spitzbergs were in the boot.I had already booked and paid for a remap by Shark Performance with one of their promotions.

Posted Image

My first modification was to fit the wood trim. p/n 5L2858418CDT8 bought from Allams Skoda.

Posted ImageI

First of all I had to run her for a few weeks before going all the way up to Mansfield to see Ben. So We took her up to Scotland to the Glen of the Eagles. Had a great time there, finding lots of lanes with snow and ice. She performed beautifully on her winter tyres.

Scotland:

Posted Image

So come January I made the trip up to Mansfield. well, almost. My second modification was to hit a down pipe from a lorry on the M25 at 70mph, which dented both my offside steel wheels, causing my front tyre to deflate. Skoda Assistance called to fit spare as I felt it too dangerous to change on the motorway at that time. Then somebody else hit the same down pipe and it missed her by about a foot. Thank goodness!

So I had the rims bent back in shape (club hammerPosted Image - try that with alloys....)

So went back up north to Shark Performance a few days later. Seeing as that was covered in great detail at the time, with lots of photos, here is the link to that threadInstant transformation. Enjoyed the drive back home with much more power and torque. Initially the gear change became very jerky until the gearbox had adapted to the increased torque. Now it is back to being silky smooth most of the time.

A few months later I decided that I would have a multifunction flappy paddle steering wheel fitted. Shark Performance again came up with the goods, an Octavia vRS model with perforated leather, so I ventured north again.

Posted Image

The flappy paddle MFSW is brilliant. You can change up or down using the paddles whilst in Drive or Sport, and of course in Tiptronic.

She will pull 5th gear at 30mph, at about 1100rpm with no problem, and 6th around 35mph. 70mph crusing now feels like it needs a 7th gear at a little over 2100 rpm.

Ben also modified the map, and gave me increased mid-top end, so the engine now drives like a petrol all the way to the red line. Great fun when the road is clear. It lost a little at the bottom end though, but still more than standard. Not yet been been on a rolling road that I trust. That will come later.

To start with, I did have issues with the DSG when coming down the 'box when in tiptronic, and dropping a couple of gears, it would find a false neutral. Not had that for many months now. Maybe I have adapted to it and down change slower, but not sure that I do.

Six members of the Yeti section joined James from Allams for an interesting drive around the Surrey country side along some BOAT's see this video taken by SK10ODA

I took her round Castle Coombe in April for my first ever outing on a track, which was great fun, and eventually managed to overtake the other Yeti on the track, 900000's one, having got a little left behind to start with. I have fitted Pittasoft's Blackvue DR300G vehicle drive recorders front and rear, which are on all the time and record everything that happens in front and behind me all the time, even when parked.

I took her around Castle Coombe again in September and it rained just before and during our session only. An answer to prayer! I didn't download my front camera soon enough. Tremendous fun as not many of the cars could keep up round the bends Posted Image

I have also done a few other tweaks. I have the front and rear door sill protectors and a bumper protector.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The lights inside her are a little too dim for me to read at night, which I have to do for work, so all the interior lights have been upgraded to LED lights. I have also upgraded the rear boot light  and the front parking lights

Posted Image

Interior reading light: ebay user APW motors online - error free canbus 510/w5w LED sidelight bulbs 8SMD.Boot light from Superskoda p/n CRG-DOME

Posted Image

When washing the her early on I caught part of the TDI on the boot, and rather than replacing it, I have removed it just to confuse people. So she looks like a 1.2tsi DSG. The only way you can tell she isn't, is by the 4x4 on the DSG lever. Now how can I change that......

Posted Image

I have also fitted the coat hanger behind the drivers seat.

To keep me secure in my seat I use a CG-Lock, which keeps the lap belt tight, but allows the cross chest part to move freely. It kept me in my seat around Castle Coombe and also when offroad.

Posted Image

I have recently upgraded my DR300G to the latest HD model, the DR400G HD which gives 1920 x 1080p at 30fps. The DR300G it replaced did 640 x 480 at 30fps.

I had Towbar preparation from the factory and had a Westfalia detachable towbar fitted, but the dealer struggled to code the onboard computers, so I paid Gizmo68 a visit. He very kindly sorted out a few things for me like the towbar coding, stopped the annoying boing when the telephone connects to the car when you turn the ignition on.

I have also had the country changed to Australia so that I can have the large mph display, and when that is selected in the Maxidot, I have the outside temperature displayed instead of kmh. To resort to kmh I uncheck the relevant box in the Maxidot. I have the needle sweep as well when the ignition is turned on.

You can also see the flappy paddles here...

Nice write up. Like Johann I am interested in the interior lights as the OEM bulbs are far too dim. I find the bulbs in the rear (ie either side of the sunroof are nigh on useless).

I dislike them because I have lovely bright white LED light in the boot and dim yellow lights in the car.

Below are the mods that can be done to the Yeti, Courtesy of Gizmo68: (Many thanks for this info)

I tried to add to original post but it wouldn't display the photos.

Mike

Gizmo68:
A quick search would of found the following that I posted for another member:

BEFORE YOU DO ANY CHANGES DO A FULL SCAN OF THE CAR AND SAVE THE SCAN, I CANNOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT THIS STAGE IS!!

To set the country to Australia:

To change the country go to 17- Instruments and click on "Coding - 07"
Posted Image

Then click on "Long Coding Helper"
Posted Image

Finally under Bit 4 select "70 Country: Australia (AUS)"
Posted Image

Exit this screen and you will return to the previous screen (with the current & new coding displayed) you see that the long coding has changed, click on "Do it!" all will then be saved.

Once you have made the changes with VCDS you then need to go into the maxi-dot menu:

SETTINGS
Units
,
"Consu/distance" change this back to mpg (GB), mi (as it defaults to 1/100km, km),

then

SETTINGS
"MFD data" and make sure the box for Digit.speed is ticked

You can also remove the KPH display and replace it with the outside temperature:

SETTINGS

and unticked the "ALT.speed dis." box (this will remove the KPH speed and replace it with the outside temp display)

For the staging go to:

17 - Instruments
Adaptation - 10

You will then find the 'staging' in the drop down box.

If whoever is doing the changes looks a bit worried about any of the above then I suggest you do not let them touch the car! VCDS is perfectly safe in the right hands, but someone who hasn't a clue can screw a lot of things up!.

You also need to make sure that the interface is a genuine Ross-Tech one as an eBay cable will not work on your car.

I've seen this car in the Metal and shared the track with it.
Loads of buttons :o I love buttons me LOL
I'd certainly consider a Yeti if I needed something bigger
but with me and the Mrs  being childless, for now two smaller cars is ideal.
We'd probably get rid of the SDI and replace it with one of these
if I did find ourselves in the family way so to speak..
I have to say I'd probably go with Black though.

Here's a question, where on earth did you get the wheel centres from on your steels?
I really want a set for my 16" winter steels. Are they available from skoda?

Have a look at this thread:

http://briskoda.net/...or-not-to-trim/

And more specifically these posts:

http://briskoda.net/...ost__p__2191429

http://briskoda.net/...ost__p__2286165

They are VW Caddy van centre caps (ok Mike's is from a T5 but T5 caps are 5x120 and not 5x112 so they don't fit perfectly) to which he glued Skoda badges from eBay.

So get some Caddy trims.

I've not done the research in that size alas!  But as you can imagine a commercial vehicle of some description is normally the source.  Å koda has never had a commercial version of the Caddy or T5 in the UK so hence we have to use VW centre caps!

I stupidly bought the first Å koda centre caps I could find on eBay which were from the Felicia pick-up.  It has 4 studs so doh...  did not work for me!  Foolishly I bought another set so I also have a tatty Felicia car set! The all black Felicia pick-up set is in better nick but neither fitted my car (nor will they yours without modification).  But they are the only Å koda centre caps you will find.

Maybe in the homeland at some point they made centre caps for the Fabia I Praktik commercial van?  But looking at the images on Google they all have full plastic covers.  So you luck is out I think.  BUT PM me if you want some Felicia ones to tinker with.  I have no use for them.

If you end up in the family way you don't want a Yeti at least not for the first few years. My son is 4 and when he was younger we were struggling to fit all the kit required into an Octavia estate. If we'd had a yeti I'd have needed a trailer!!

The units have a sticky pad, which sticks to the windscreen. You rotate by trial & error to get the correct view.

Rear is plugged ito rear 12v power supply.
The front is hard wired in using the GreatYeti's <a href="http://briskoda.net/...-installation/" class="bbc_url" title="">guide</a> for installing a switched live power supply, but using a permanent live instead, by piggy backing off the front 12v power supply. The cables are then just pushed behind trim to get them out of the way.

I covered it a bit <a href="http://briskoda.net/...atest-project/" class="bbc_url" title="">here
No photos done - it is very easy.

Here is a sample taken at night:

Very impressive Rockhopper.  As you know I'm into these devices as well and currently use the old version.

What has always annoyed me is that the previous generation are not that good at picking up registration numbers as the quality is not great.

I use permanent live, from  memory fuse no 20, (whichever the 12v permanent supply is to front 12v socket) piggy backed off using the guide by GREAT YETI.

Yes these are much better at number plates. It is impressive for night. I am pleased.

I managed to pick them up on a group buy on another forum for £200 each. Saving £200 Posted Image I'm happy.

So both are on all the time?
Don't you have concerns about battery drain, or do you manually switch them to a parking mode when not moving for a day or two?
