maf problems

Featured Replies

hey guys got a question as my vrs seems to kill maf sensors in a matter of days but ive no idea why

its got the ait feed in the arch removed and fed from behind the headlight (cars too low for arch liners) and a pipercross air filter in the standard box

had 2 mafs and codes cleared and keep getting

air injection fault maf errors

Have you checked the wiring and multiplug going to the MAF? You may be replacing working MAFs when it's the wiring thats at fault. I used to put silicon electrical contact grease on the multiplug connectors on mine as on some 1.8T's they corrode. The higher spec VAG models with the BAM engine (S3, LCR, TT 225) had a MAF and connector which came with plated terminals to stop this.

The Pipercross filter shouldn't make a difference as I believe they are foam ones rather than oiled pleated paper and it's the oiled ones which tend to kill MAFs but only if you over-oil them and it would take months not days for the problem to occur.

not checked the wiring i wouldnt know where to start it looks ok but **** knows what id be testing to see if it has signals ect :/

Just check it for any breakages in the wire going to the multiplug. You can check the terminals with a multimeter but you'd need a wiring diagram to do that (there is one in the Haynes manual but I don't think it's detailed enough)... probably a job for a VAG specialist or auto electrician.
