2.skoda fabia monte carlo 1.2 tsi.........in white or black but second hand

3.suzuki 1,2 z3 petrol in white .....new

need help to decide cos she is getting on my T***ts

Edited by greatdane

How big does the car need to be?

If it's just short local trips and mainly with driver on board, i would go for the Citigo.

monte!

My good lady also has a fancy for an Up/Citygo, although I think she would miss her current Fabia's 1.2TSI 85 motor; been very impressed with the performance.

Though if you were looking at retained value from your list, then I think the Citygo would be the safer place to spend your dosh and remember the current Fabia is in its twilight years.

TP

Surely you mean the up! will be the safer bet with regards to the least depreciation?

A black pack used Monte, or wait for the Up gti, ( like it really was only a concept)

Pound for pound the Citigo has a higher Spec and comes with Greentech as standard so no road tax.

I know which one I'd be buying after 2/3 years secondhand.

Which is exactly my point :wall:

The Skoda will lose more money than the VW, so for a new owner, the VW is the better bet.

The Citigo will have a better retained value because of it's higher Spec +Greentech for a similar initial outlay.

So for a new owner the Citigo is the better bet. :wall:

You are forgetting than VW > Skoda. Doesn't matter what the spec is.

I have exactly the same conundrum for my daughter.

We have been looking at all the city car models from all the manufacturers and the citigo seems to represent the best value for money and marque reliability.

My problem is trying to get insurance quotes as she is only 20 and has only been driving for 2 years.

Her current premiums on a pug 106 1.1 are ridiculous.

Good job she's not a boy!

It seems even though the citigo is listed on their website, Skoda insurance does not have any specific models listed so I'm unable to get a figure.

I have tried other companies and it's the same story.

There is no way we're going to buy the car before I know the cost of insurance!

Just get a quote for an up! instead, since they're pretty much the same car. Would at least give you a ball-park figure.

im 19 and had looked up the citigo, go with go compare and search the make model engine spec and it will give u quotes :) personally im now looking at a monte as i like the car and not too much insurance difference for me as i have 2 years no claims due to provisional year having a car :)

Thanx for the heads up sheppeygirl.

They were the first place I looked but at the time didn't list the citigo.

Just been on there again and I nearly fell out of the chair!

Best quote for her as main driver and both of us parents as named drivers.

Wait for it..........

£460 fully comp!

Massive smile :) :) that's a quarter of what she's paying for the 106 :)

That's good :)

I thought we may be in for a big shock with that quote last week.

My daughter was involved in a 1/3 1/3 head on, totally not her fault but you know what insurance co's are like ( fortunately at low speed so just bruises ) and the 106 is toast!

With such a low market value I'm not surprised.

A real bonus actually coz there is no way we could have sold it for the same amount :)

I digress...

had to ring the new ins co with details etc.

Turns out there were 3 things needed amending so I was expecting a huge premium hike.

1 the accident

2 the NCB should have been 1 yr not 2

3 previous quote based on the S spec.

Anyway it ended up only costing an extra £25 :) :) Result!

The quote i got was based on the car im getting (elegance)

I had a spin in my saxo in december but luckily didnt hit anyone or anything and 'landed' on a grass verge and bar a cut in the lower bumper there was no damage, so no change to the insurance, had i hit and damaged the car, god knows what the insurance would be

I really feel for young drivers these days, especially the boys, and I struggle to get my head round the fact they are made to pay far more than their car is worth just to be legal.

What's the answer?

A workmate wanted to put his son on his insurance policy but hit problems, they wanted silly money. As his son was a 17 yr old and just passed his test the only way to go was get one of those insurance approved black box devices fitted to his car. It brought the price down from a outrageous £5000 to somewhere in the region £2000. That was only on a 8 yr old Clio.

I've just added my Vx 1.9 diesel to a multicar policy I have with Aviva for £42 for 6 months cover. I am 58 yrs young so feel so sorry for the youngsters today. Can't wait to see how much the Citigo costs to insure when I finally get one, peanuts I hope.

Its ridiculous my quote for my saxo before i took any insurance (18 male) at the time was north of £3000 and now at 19 and a year of no drama driving and ins group 2 citigo = £800

And its supposed to not mater whether your male or female, i know a girl 18 whos got a 1.6 VTS saxo ins 14 and paying less then me at the moment on my 1.1 saxo hows that right???
