Retro fit dash with fuel computer to Fabia Classic 1.4 MPI 8V?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I posted about the Scangauge E I bought and the trouble I am having so thought about trying something different. What I want is an instant MPG / avg MPG display in the Fabia. I don't really care how it's done.

Is retro fitting a dash from a different model possible to achieve this? If so, what dash am I after?

Mines a 2001 Fabia 1.4 MPI 8V Classic (Y plate)

Thanks in advance.

From what I read on various sites (when looking about keycoding), there are 3 different dash setups on Fabias...the "base" clocks, the "fuel computer" clocks on the ..erm..elegance/comfort?, and the fancy top end ones.

However, more that that I do not know...the Missus W reg 1.4MPi classic already has the dash with it in...looks to have been that way since the factory. Odd, mind, as it's as basic as it gets apart from that and aircon..

Ha, yes mine doesn't have central locking or electric mirrors or windows. I looked into retrofit cruise control and then found my convenience unit is 6Q2 so not supported. With the celica, I'd just go to the scrapyard and get the uprated part but it seems all this talk of coding each unit sounds like an excuse for the dealer, or people in "the club" to fleece you. My car effectively has DRM.

I've decided to try and find a local Skoda dealer that will talk to me about what I want to achieve, without trying to rip me off, and without all the bull. I've written my own ECU mapping software for the Apexi Power FC so I'll be able to smell the bull a mile off.
