Yeti plastic wheel arch extensions.

I was rather taken with these additions on a Yeti Urban I saw yesterday at Palmers while having my car serviced and rear badge replaced. (I find this very odd as the front one also has signs of white worm and is not included in the 'recall').

The part number for the wheel arch kit is SL0071069 but is I think a tad on the expensive side. As far as I could tell on the showroom car front mud flaps would still fit also.

Now my real question, has anyone tried those available from superskoda? These are about half the price at €140 for the complete set

How much are the ones from the dealer?

About £250.00, I see SuperSkoda has the original parts also at €280, so the 3rd party item is half the cost, but is it any good?

Jeep I had exactly the same experience, recall only covered rear badge although it was pristine, whereas the front one was showing signs of "white worm". Service took photo and submitted it to Skoda UK, no response yet!

Hello Jeep

Superskoda have two sets of wider fender flares.

The more expensive one calles itself "original skoda" and costs 279.99 Euros.

The set I ordered from them and installed in my Yeti looks great ,they are similar to the originals if you ask me,but are not made by Skoda (the brand name makes the product much more expensive,of course)

The set I have is called set KI-R wider fender flares and costs 139 Euros.

They look great and I am very happy with the product.

Buy the cheaper set and youll save a packet.

Hi Oriki,

The Skoda version seems to come with a preparation kit, degreaser, primer, and additional adhesive as well as self adhesive location fixing. Does the KI-R set? Or is it just press-on self adhesive?

The weight of the Skoda kit 4.9 Kg, the weight of the KI-R set 2.6 Kg. Were full instructions also included?

I found these instructions on the web, not sure that they apply to the Skoda or KI-R products.

Hello Jeep

I emailed Superskoda the day I received the product asking for instructions,as there were none with the packet.

Their answer was that it should be glued on,preferably by a specialist (car body shop,I presume).

Because I like to do things myself,I wondered how I could stick on the fenders without damaging the paintwork.

I got a roll of Velcro , cut it into approximately two inch by 3/4 inch strips and stuck six or seven such strips on each fender flare and pressed it against the car body.It holds perfectly. Now I am pleased with the solution I have thought up,and I have made sure the paintwork of the car is not damaged.I am giving you this know-how for free!....ha ha ha.

Go ahead and do the same, you will save money and be pleased with yourself. As for looks,it is just the same as the original.

Velcro???

So how will you stop dirt, etc from getting behind them?

Yes the Superskoda ones are cheaper; now you know why!

If you are going to buy something, cheapest isn't always the best!

The genuine Skoda ones does not come with anything apart from the actual plastic extensions, you would need to factor in the cost for the glue etc.

The main difference between the Skoda ones and the Superskoda own brand is the front wheel arch, Skoda ones come with 2 part (for bumper and actual arch) whilst the Superskoda ones are 1 piece.

Easy.Pull the plastic off, clean and then put back on.Makes more sense, doesnt it?

That's so the accessories don't have a shelf life. We can provide bonding agent and the correct cleaners and primers.

I wonder then what makes up the extra 2.3 Kg of weight between the Skoda originals and the superskoda ones then? The weight of the Skoda kit is 4.9 Kg, the weight of the KI-R set 2.6 Kg, both from superskoda.

True, but plastic is plastic so why pay over the odds.

It might in Isreal, but it certainly wouldn't here!!

Plastic is not just plastic.

There are different types, qualities and weights.

I'm of the opinion that you pay for what you get, and find invariably that when you pay cheap you pay twice, because you have to replace the first cheap lot. I think the difference in the two weights says it all.

I'd buy the proper Skoda ones.

Because there are various different qualities of plastics offering different properties?

True again, but if both products were fit for purpose, which one would you buy? I'd go for the cheapest personally. Not that I have made my mind up on doing this yet, but I thought I'd fish for information.

Can anyone Identify this kit, It comes with preparation and fixing kit and additional bit for base of rear hatch? Please see these instructions, I don't think they are of Skoda origin, but I might be wrong.

Agree 100% - OE equipment every time. On the "Velcro" issue, when the 2 pieces of veclro are attached to each other there will be a gap between the kit and bodywork which will look a bit "Heath Robinson" (aka "Bodge Job"). Certainly not the look I would want on a £18K car. On my Urban, you cannot see any gap at all with the factory fitted wheel arch kit. If it's worth doing then do it right -period!

Thin paper plates are "fit for purpose", but would you use them every day?

Buy cheap, buy twice.

Buy the best, fit once.

And if you want a good example of that try Googling "Britpart and Land Rover"!

As I thought part of the weight of the Skoda kit is the preparation and gluing kit, nothing to do with the weight of plastic used, I quote

Add some off road presence to your Yeti with this complete all round wheel arch extension kit. Comes with 3x glue and 1x primer to complete the fitting process. Genuine Skoda branded accessory. Part number 5L0071069 & HHA381014 (x3) & HHA381016

Cheers

I used the Skoda OEM kit, just over £200.00 I think, plus the bonding agent.

I used some Tiger seal as well, but no sign of any movement despite running along forest gravel tracks.

The Skoda front arch trim is in two pieces, which will allow slight movement of the body panel on the move, and of course complete removal of the panel.

If you use a single piece front wheel arch trim, you're stuffed if it needs to come apart, plus the constant "chittering" of the panels over each joint won't do much to avoid stressing the bond.

Hi, yes that makes sense with the additional join, I'm still undecided wether to bother, hate the thought of losing part of the trim, and then having to replace or remove the lot.

The complete original Skoda kit with the fixing/preparation products included is also on ebay for around £270.00 including p&p

I had mine fitted when I bought the car, part of the deal- £145 inc VAT and fitting. Originally told they would be over £400 fitted.

Sounds like a very good deal, and if anything did fall off it would be the dealers problem also :-)
