Can you tell me why I have received three different direct debit mandates all sent on the same day from Close Brothers for the policy which I have not accepted yet and each one shows conflicting dates for the payments to be taken?

Right, the first one you got was triggered by the renewal invitation (to show what the payments would be), the second was sent when Close decided which date they would proposed to take the first payment. When we get notification of that (and if we know you had a preferred debit date) we change the debit date to your preferred one and that triggers a final version. Close are aware of the craziness of this but there's no solution currently in the pipeline I'm afraid. If you have another policy premium coming out of the same bank account the docs will automatically list all payment dates scheduled.

I gave them a call after Chris Knott had already renewed my policy without my authorisation. I'll give them their dues, they did match my cheapest quote instantly, maybe a bit too quick. When pushed to beat it for my years of loyalty could only offer another £5 after knocking off £93 instantly to match their reputable competition (others were cheaper still but not worth the risk). 

Decided to move insurers as I have lost faith and trust Chris Knott to act in my best interests.

The BBC News website reports:
"Drivers saw their car insurance premiums rise by an average of £110 in the last year, a comparison site says. More expensive repairs and recent government changes to injury payouts pushed up annual insurance costs by 16%, according to Confused.com. It found drivers paid on average £781 on comparison sites for a comprehensive policy in the year to March 2017. Average premiums are set to rise to a record high and could pass £1,000 next year, it added. Newer vehicles have seen some of the biggest rises, because their increasingly complex electronics have made repairs more expensive...

 

...The Confused [dot] com research...checks more than four million car insurance quotes."

 

I just wanted to let you know that the Chris Knott average premium through the club insurance scheme is much lower than that reported on the comparison sites.

 

In March 2016, Chris Knott's average premium was less than half that at £369. This March (2017) it was £399 - just a £30 increase and still majorly more economical than £781. There's definitely something beneficial for members in using the club scheme through Chris Knott then.
