I've had my car 4 yrs and the radio was fine.  Then it started increasing and decreasing volume on its own, which was cured by an audio repair guy.  It then started to turn itself on when the car was left locked, whether the knob was in or out.  The audio guy has tried to fix it but it's still doing it and I have been advised I need a new unit (at £250-ish). Any tips gratefully received, or does anyone have an old one knocking about under the stairs that they would like a new home for?!!  I have removed the thing as I do not want any battery probs.

Not really the best place to get your query answered.
The Fabia 1 forum would be a better place to ask this.
The symphony radios do have an auto volume feature that can be
turned on and off, are you sure it's not that?.
Failing that it's far cheaper to buy an aftermarket
head unit (£60 will buy something respectable) and facia adaptor panel
(£3 from skoda) than it will be to replace the symphony.

Also if you get a different Symphony it will have to be coded to the car
if you don't have the keycode with it, your cars ECU will only "find" the unit
it has been paired with.
