LED Bulb Upgrades for Superb II

All sorted now . It wasn't a cheap upgrade by any means but imo it was worth it .No more errors!

The look of the led's is so much better .The above pictured resistors from Poland are a doddle to fit and seem good quality.

I have decoded the BCM module here, means I can remap the settings in it to whatever light setup that is wanted.

This means that Bulb check can be disabled on whatever bulb I want. Therefore bulbs can now be coded into the BCM whether they are fillament or LED individually - No need of any load resistors. Also I can remove the annoying 3 blinks during startup in the DRL, when they are replaced by LED's. Same with indicators lights.

 

This came from updating a Superb with FL LED tail lights where many hours was spend in my garage, because in 2010 some "******" Superb was made - wiring not as the rest. In the end it was solved and the car is working with 2015 LED tail lights. This many hours did leave a lot knowledge, so it ended up that I decoded the whole module.

I did a car today fitting the new LED tail lights and remaped the BCM in 30 mins ! It is really fast now to do this upgrade. No change of BCM is needed no longer + extra wiring (described in many forum's) is also not needed anymore. It is now direct replacement.

 

So if any of you British Skoda Superb drivers come to Denmark with wishes similar to the above, pop by and I can help you out  :sun:

+1 for these - opted for these after WaveyDavey suggested them. No errors at first but not anymore as I've installed a set of these:

What year car is yours Coops? Mine work fine without any extra resistors and it's a MY11 November 2010 registered 60 plate car.

2011 on a 61 plate. Worked fine for a day then threw an error. Didn't want to splice wires so opted for the kit, looks very OEM.

Is that the glass or the chrome part you carefully prise off? For the map reading lights

Hi,

 

I jumped on the LED bandwagon and I have a problem that I hope you all are not getting.

 

Fitted these W5W LEDs to my park lights. Ran them for a couple of weeks and one 'side' of one has failed AND both reflectors are showing signs of discolour/overheating. I have now removed them.

My suggestion for anyone running LEDs is to make a quick check on the reflector to see if things are getting too hot.

What equipment did you need to do this?

 

I am in the same position, I have the OEM LED tail lights on my 2011 Superb.

 

I had to add resistors to stop the blown bulb warning but also the lights don't function quite as Skoda intended:

 

1) The lower level of LED's are too bright in night / tail light mode.

2) Only the upper twin row of LED's light up for the brake lights instead of the full 'C' shape.

I've been told I need to code my car so that it thinks it is a 2012 model, this will fix all issues but this cannot be done with VCDS alone, I need access to VAS (dealer software) too. It is also rumoured that it might be possible using VAG CAN Pro (VCP) but members on here are still learning their way around this new software...

Heres a pic of the discolouring I got running LEDs for park lights. I can't 100% confirm that the reflector wasn't like this before the LEDs, but I'm trying a different type of LED in there now so will keep a better eye on it.

Just a quick update on my led drl bulbs. Mine was registered on 26-11-2012 but I dunno when it was made.

After a couple of days I am now getting the dreaded error messages . (the orange bulb sign and the maxi dot message saying right hand light out)

But I don't get errors every time , groan!

It appears these Superbs are fickle beasts or the bulbs are different in every batch maybe?

On the plus side I fitted the recommended h8 fog light xenon bulbs and they're great , and I can now whip out the cover and light unit and swap bulbs in seconds :rofl:  

Hi gents, first post here so go easy on me, I am thinking about buying the following DRLs for my 2012 Superb Combi: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/382-p21w-5w-cree-smd-canbus-led-bulbs-white/. Do i need resistors for these and if so where do i get them?

Also thinking about upgrading the fogs when I'm at it (or is that ill-advised?) to the 'h8 fog light xenon bulbs' here: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-h8-12v-35w-cosmos-blue-xenon-effect-upgrade-bulbs/. Will these work or again do i need resistors? Can anybody comment on their performance.

Very bright and no resistors required. Mine is also year 2012.

The fog bulbs you posted seem like standard halogen bulbs with whiter effect, so no resistors required. Have a look on ebay, as you may find them cheaper there.

Thank you kindly, are LED fogs considered ineffective in fog or are there ones on the market that are effective in fog? Otherwise would the H8s in my previous link be much whiter? The yellow ones look out of place with the bi-xenons

LEDs are not as effective for fogs as standard halogen bulbs. The halogens from your link should be considerably whiter than the original ones. Hello Nick, with regard to this....

LED Upgrades to:

1. DRLs

2. Indicators (front and rear)

3. Reverse lights

4. Front side light

Over 3 yrs on, from your original question, did anyone advise on the possibility of upgrading the 'Reversing Light'....?

Yes you can fit LED's in the reversing lights, I have done so on my MKI Superb and the F/L Yeti

On the Yeti however they do flash momentarily when the CANBUS does it's bulb check

I will now have a go at these...previous purchases have given an error on my dash, rather annoying..!! considering that the brightness of the bulbs were excellent compared to the originals.

If what Gizmo suggests doesn't work then they are unlikely to be suitable for your model year of car.

For some models, LED bulbs work without fault but for others they produce a bulb failure.

This can occur even on cars from the same model year.
