Fully Synthetic Oil in a Citigo?

Recommended Posts

I like to look after my engines and adopted using fully synthetic oil in my current Nissan Tiida. Hope to have our new Citigo Elegance 60bhp by the first week of October. I will speak to the dealership of course, but I was wondering if any knowledgable members of the forum would have any advice to offer on this. Apart from using fully synthetic long term, I would welcome any advice as to whether or not to make a change before the first service or not, which would include the running in period obviously?

Most modern engine use a long life oil

I know GM use 5-30 fully Synthetic blend

I would imagine vag would be same but check with your dealer or download the manual and have a look at the specs

Studied the manual and it says VW 502.00 oil. I appreciate this is a standard and I presume the dealer will fit the appropriate oil. Might this be any oil that fulfills the standard or be a particular oil specified by Skoda? Is all 502.00 oil fully synthetic or a blend?

The car will come from the factory with the right oil in it. When I bought my Fabia, it had a litre of top up oil with it. You might get this with your Citigo. I would just follow the guidance in the user manual regarding oil top ups and changes.

Qauntum LongLife III 507.00 Perhaps ??

Thanks. I have not seen that oil for sale here. I see that it is fully synthetic and meets the relevant Volkswagon engine requirements. I have not been able to confirm from a search if 502.00 is fully synthetic or a blend. From your reply, and the specification of the oil you mentioned, it may suggest that it is, but I still would like to hear from someone who is in a position to categorically advise on this.

I have always been a user of Millers oil, and in fact use a fully synthetic 5w-30 in our 1.8TSi Octavia. Having looked at the Millers website I can confirm that 502 can in fact be both fully synthetic and semi-synthetic, depends on which oil you go for, what you want to pay and if the car is on extended service regime or not.

http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=49&sector=Car

This is for long life oil change intervals.

http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=204&sector=Car

This one is a 5w-40 fully synthetic but normal annual oil changes.

http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=247&sector=Car

This seems to be a semi-synthetic 10w-40 oil for normal annual oil changes.

I hope this helps.

A good quality 10w-40 semi is good for most engines, which I've used in all my vehicles petrol or diesel with no problems. But where a warranty is concerned stick with the recommended oils.

Thanks. That's the information I was after. I would probably go for a low mileage annual oil change fully synthetic then. We only do about 6,000 miles a year.

Have just landed on this particular Forum, and being currently in the midst of a battle with the local Skoda Dealership (from whom I've actually bought two Citigo's) about their cost of a Minor Service - they charging £169 for what is seemingly little more than an oil & Filter change, I made some enquires Online. It would appear that there are roughly 16 different brands of engine oils, that VW are prepared to accept as being equivalent to their 502.00 specification - seemingly all fully-synthetic oils, & although they seem to vary from 5W-30 to 5W-40 - the majority are of the 5W-40 specification.

What is debatably more confusing (for those people who wish to avoid being ripped off by the Dealership, & carry out their own service), is determining the precise specification of the Filter.

Everything else that the Dealer appears to do for your money on a Minor Service, is somewhat questionable, for those who prefer to carry out their own servicing - No, you won't have the Service Indicator Warning reset (although there are ways & means of doing it yourself, on Briskoda Forums) & No, you won't be able to receive any patches (& Skoda UK WILL NOT release exactly what they cover, to a private owner)so there are those who would say that if your car is running OK, then the necessity of having these patches may be termed "academic". But conceivably, other owners may want to have them downloaded, irrespective???

You pays your money (lots & lots of it, to a Dealer), & you makes your choice.

A minor service should be £149 if they participate in the fixed price servicing scheme:

It's still A LOT of money for, as you say, what is effectively just an oil and filter change.

Quantum oil can be had nice and cheap:

If you look again (at the smaller print), you will see that £149 is a MAXIMUM price...the dealer is free to charge less , upto the maximum. After an initial quote of £139 for my first service (and on my mentioning that people on here were paying about a hundred)..."how about £90 then?" was their reply. And that's exactly what I was charged..
