Manual extract:

The indicator light ? lights up for a cold engine when switching on the ignition

(pre-heat position) 2 ? page 82. Start the engine just as soon as the indicator light

goes out.

The glow plug indicator light will come on for about 1 second if the engine is at a

normal operating temperature or if the outside temperature is above +5°C. This

means that you can start the engine right away.

There is a fault in the glow plug system if the indicator light ? does not come on

at all or lights up continuously. Contact a specialist garage as soon as possible to

obtain professional assistance.

There is a system fault in the engine control system if the warning light ? has

started to flash while driving. The engine management system selects an emergency

programme which enables you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by

adopting a gentle style of driving.

It's the "something's gone wrong light" which is most likely electrical. Brake light switch is a common cause but it could be something else. Check whether your brake lights work and then look to get the car scanned for faults.

If it flashes whilst the engine is running then there is a fault. I doubt that there is anything wrong with the brakes, just the lights.

When I look at the linked page and put my registration number in three possibilities come up - two (the ones you've noted) are the same price and the other one (unbranded and without a picture) is more expensive.)

Surely you could take the old one along to compare? Or get it at a dealer in the first place (where they'll presumably go from the chassis number?)

EDIT - did you see the page linked from the guide page:

http://www.fabia-vrs...witch-failures/

Neither of the eurocarparts ones looks exactly like that - though it doesn't mean those won't necessarily fit and work...

Hi All

Just thought I would pop my two pence worth on this.  I was having this problem and after a panic re the flashing coil I realized it was happening after a re-start after a short trip.   Put the avo on the battery and it was down to about 12.22v.   Turned off the auto light switch to give the battery a chance to charge up a bit without all the lights coming on in the dusk and now no more flashing coil thing.   Can only think that Skoda has linked this coil pic to a low battery warning.  Could be wrong but its a thought.

No auto lights on a mk1 fabia. Its the brake light switch causing the problem, as others have said.
