How-to: Replace Fabia aerial base.

Recommended Posts

advice...i changed my head unit and the aerial cable head has snapped off...how easy is it to replace the head, get another one, cut and solder them together?  I can do that bit but is there any special type to get?  I have lots of spare ends.  Can I just solder the right ISO connector to it? Understand that I will still need the booster.

Thanks

any help on this please appreciated.

this is the new type...it doesn't come off, its just unscrews, losens and like you said you can fold it back. just means if it ever breaks you would have to replace the whole thing.

That's funny because both my own 06 plate vRS and the Mrs' 05 plate vRS have this same aerial and both came off with an almighty big tug..... I replaced both with S2000 aerials which I would have thought wouldn't be possible if they weren't removal. ;)

I unscrewed it until it wouldn't go nore more and thats it it doesn't want to come off.  I'm not really going to test the theory of yanking it off having spent days trying to sort out my fuzzy radio! :)

Yeah i know.... It's designed like that.... And it's designed to need a very hard tug to get it to come off..... Believe me you won't break anything. ;)

There are plenty of posts in the fabia forum regarding it over the last ten plus years or so.

For those who can't be arsed to look it up.....

And they were just the obvious ones from the results of a simple search for "aerial" in the fabia I forum. ;)

Replaced the aerial base on the Mrs' vRS on Sunday afternoon while the weather was nice..... How the heck did you guys manage it without partly removing the side trims inside the boot area??? I had to remove the middle trim as mentioned in the guide and then also the side trims partially to get the roof lining down enough to get to the nut. Then had to get the Mrs to hold the new base in place on top of the car while I then got the new fixing nut to bite correctly.

Anyway.... The radio now works fine again. :)

I got the new base & aerial from the local dealers for £28 I think it was.

Did mine last night. The key was to pull straight down at the middle of the headlining's edge. It naturally comes out the side trims a bit, you can pop it back in when you're putting it all back.

All-in-all, 30m well spent, now getting stations I didn't even know existed.

Took the old base apart today and it was stuffed.
