After getting a couple of quote for around £700 - £800 from VW specialists to get my first revision tensioner replaced, I found one that has replaced it for £250.

Just picked it up - can stop reading this thread and worrying now - phew!

That sounds like just the tensioner which my local main dealer offered to do for just over £400 but when I asked how much extra for the guides and chain, the price shot up to £1000 so I guess the places quoting £7-800 may be including the guides which require the chain to be removed, hence you may as well do the chain at same time. If you just do the tensioner but keep the old guides, the chain can stay on so cuts the labour bill in half. Edited by Matt Pez

Yup, called the company he went to and got the same quote. Great price!

Mine just hit the 1000k mark now but they haven't requested me to go and have oil changed

Blimey, must be a world record, one million miles with no oil change! :rofl:

Update:-

 

Not good, the Skoda Warranty (Car Care Plan) have rejected the claim as its an "inherent fault" which is mentioned in the small print. Skoda have so far offer 80% off the parts leaving me with a bill of £2.5k! I am currently waiting for them to get back to me as I have escalated it and I am also taking legal advice to claim against the dealer I purchased the car from new.

 

So if anyone has purchased a Skoda extended warranty to cover your tensioner, its worthless.

 

Mine was fully covered under the extended warranty

I have read every single page of this thread after finding it today. I have a 2.0vrs registered in Jan 2011 and until today enjoyed every minute I have driven it. I think I'll px it now for a bog standard family motor. Wish I'd never read the thread in the first place but then again best to know these things. Every time I start her up now I'll be listening for the death rattle as I have my car serviced by a reliable friendly independent mechanic, so can't see Skoda stumping up any help if it goes tits up. I am absolutely gutted after reading this thread.

Why not do what an increasing number of members have done recently and replace the timing chain, chain tensioner and guide rails with the latest versions? This can be done for less than £500 if you find the right garage, and is not much more than a cambelt and water pump change would have cost every 4 years for the older 1.8T engine.

Yes mine is the CCZA. This thread is a sickener but nevertheless very informative.I may get a quote to replace the tensioner, chain and guide rails with the latest edition.Though after reading all this I'm scared to start her up.

Just get them replaced! As said about its a little more expensive than a cambelt and water pump.. I was in the same situation I read this thread and thought oh what have I bought. Car booked in everything changed and now love it!

I understand where your coming from, I was absolutely guttered when mine started giving me problems firing up then the Saturday morning when it went bang. Thankfully Skoda uk was willing to replace the engine under good will even tho the warranty was up. Are you on or around the 40k mileage

Just the one belonging to Bubbles52 at No 9 in my list in Post #1.

Skoda uk did ask for a payment which was going towards the cost of labour. They asked me for £650 but managed to get them down to £324 and I'm covered with a two yrs warranty. Apparently there is now a clip fitted to the tensioner which won't allow the chain to slacken off

So no point in paying for the revision parts as there has been at least a failure. Mine is a 10 plate so will have the first parts and just hoping it never happens. I always forget about it until this topic pops up every now and again.

Meh, too early to say, but one could argue that the clip at least potentially negates what the fault actually is as it's designed to not spring out, unlike the earlier versions. You're always gonna get one or two go on any part built, reaslistically.

 

...unless it's a Honda Vtec block, apparently. :D

I have just done a thread on the Car Care Plan get out of jail free card AKA Not covering inhrent faults. If anyone on here does have a policy with them, its worth asking them what inhrent faults they are aware of. They won't tell you (they should) so take it further.
