hi all

last week i brought a ross tech hex+can lead for my vrs and it came with a copy of vcds 11.11.3 and works fine but when i try and run it with vcds 11.11.5 I get ross-tech usb not found anyone got any ideas please.

How much did you pay for it?

If it only works with certain versions then there is a chance it's not a genuine version.

could be right got it off amazon it comes up as ross tech hex+can usb version 1.91

Personally I wouldn't risk using it on my car. You don't know what damage it might cause.

well I have tried it and it picked up a few faults and cleared some faults so I dont know

You'd be better off either buying genuine if you can afford one, or find someone near who has one and can help you out.

I'm sure plenty have had problems.

I'm afraid you won't find much tech support on this forum for the fake cables...........I don't think the moderators tolerate it......nor do most of the members.

I do sympathise with you though as when buying off Amazon you don't expect pirated goods..........but Amazon seem to be getting worse than Ebay for this type of thing now.

Let's be clear what you bought. It's a fake lead that contains pirated firmware. If you are lucky, the supplied software doesn't contain any malware.

The seller is certainly breaking Amazon's content guidelines. Contact them and the seller and demand a refund.

I would try and get your money back - either through Amazon or your Credit Card Company. Tell them it is a counterfeit lead that contains pirated firmware that is the intellectual property of Ross-Tech. If you email Ross-Tech and send them photos of the lead, I'm sure they will confirm it is a fake.

Might be an idea to let Ross-Tech know too. They chase these people to have the items removed from sale where-ever possible.

yeah we chase them but Amazon could care less. We have more luck with eBay! And that's not saying much. We have one guy in the office whose first order of business everyday is to search for the illegal products all over the world. Then he and the owner send our standard emails that threaten action. It helps but playing "whack-o-mole" every day gets old.

As i get bored in work i spend time, quite often, reporting the fake "do not update the software" cables to eBay. As soon as one vanishes another one appears :(

as said, "whack-a-mole" - beat one down, another pops up almost as soon as the first one is down....

And then we should talk about the guys who build web sites with stolen product and stolen information but hide the servers in shell corporations so our lawyers can't find them. If they were legit, would they need to do all this?
