Things can go wrong!

Featured Replies

Having done many track days over the years I have never seen any serious accidents and actually become a bit complacent.

I had a stark reminder at a damp Brands on Tuesday when a tvr lost it big time coming off clearways(?) onto start finsh straight and hit the concrete pit wall. I knew my final session would be cancelled so left with ambulances still on the scene.just hope the driver & passenger were ok.

As always, it's down to the driver to drive to the conditions.

Track days are not races.

You don't get a prize by driving at 100%, leaving a bit of a safety margin is advisable.

I've been; passenger, backwards in one of those at 120ish...

I used to treat track days as a bloody good bit of A road, go and learn what the car will or won't do without restrictions and the ambulance is far closer than the A483 or whatever you like in Wales...

The backwards moment however was due to a mkI golf going off and dragging a load of soil on to the turn... it was also in part Paul pushing to get past his mate leaving him slightly wide(manageable) of the turn in, and hence clipping the mud debris...

So just like an A road, things crop up and you deal with it... things do go wrong, the most reports I see is castle coombe. Ironically I span my mx5 more on road than track, normally always when not really focused and tootling, almost always on roundabouts with oil/fuel on them... the tiny bit of knowledge I gleamed from track driving helped me on the roads, also slows me down (sometimes).
