OOOOhh Help! Dash dead

Featured Replies

I took the stereo out today to have a look at fitting my parrot 9200. I took the stereo all the way out and disconnected the main plug, the arial and the airbag plug.

I suspect the air bag plug was the mistake?

I now have no power to the ignition or the dash - its completely dead. The interior lights and central locking all work as normal. I have had the + battery terminal disconnected for approx 50 mins but still no joy after reconnecting. Gutted......

Ok I've got power and it has started. A 15 amp fuse had gone in the engine compartment fuse area.

It start but displays the following:

Amber 'steering wheel' light on the left hand dial.

Amber 'vehicle skidding' light on the right hand side.

Also, the message 'Error Stabilisation (ESC)' is showing.

Both are, I think, symptomatic of low battery volts (unless, of course, you've depressed the ESC switch without noticing?) I'm not trying to be preachy (I'll be doing enough of that tomorrow, I'm a 'Rev'), but they are the sort of faults you can expect to throw up if you do stuff with the battery connected, then blow a fuse.

I suspect, and hope, that a quick scan and clear with VCDS will sort things out. Tell us where you are in Cheshire, and someone close by may volunteer their services.

(weird, actually, I thought of having a go at fitting my MKi9200 from my last car today - but never got round to it - too much other stuff!)

As ksr says these are common after a little battery disconnect time. Take it for a short drive to let the ESP systems recalibrate themselves and the lights should clear fairly quickly.

^what he said!

Those lights might clear if you reset the steering angle sensor. With the engine running try turning the steering wheel from lock to lock and driving slowly for 20 yards or so.

In order for the ESP to work, the steering angle sensor needs to know the angle of the front wheels and it may have lost where it was when you disconnected the power. Normally wouldn't expect that unless you'd had the steering wheel off though. I had to do this on my MK5 Golf.

P.s. you try this at your own risk!

The warning lights are common when you change the battery. As the previous poster says, just turn the wheel lock to lock and they will go away.

So I'm now on the look out for somebody how is able to fit the parrot kit and the relevant ISO cables, as close to Cheshire as poss. I've ended up with 2 additional cables as the 'start & stop' feature can cause issues with the parrot system I believe.

another superb taxi driver up here has a s spec 61 plate greenline, and he had to deactivate stop start as sometimes when it stopped the engine it would turn his meter off, and the worst thing was the first hire he got in the car was a run into glasgow so he was nearly there and when he pulled up at some traffic lights (the meter was sitting at about £30) the engine stopped and when it started it turned the meter turned off, he was gutted and by the time he turned it back in and got to the destination it only came to £3.60
