Q? Might there be a market for a vRS Superb?

Serious question, I've seen some descriptions / pix on here of seriously modified / pimped Superbs & I'm wondering if there is a real market for a "performance" Superb, with suspension & powertrain upgrades.

Skoda seem to do well with the Fabia & Octavia vRS models, & most of the other volume manufacturers have qick versions of their large family cars, such as Mondeo Titanium X & Insignia VXR.

I'e aware that the Elegance can be specified with a big V6, but it's not that powerfull for it's capacity, more of a quick luxury barge rather than a sports saloon / wagon.

So, any thoughts...........?

Think the development costs would be too much, the octy is based on the golf gti, there isn't a hot passat on which the superb is based on

I haven't studied any sales figures, but I'm guessing that sales of the Superb are a lot lower than the Octavia

I'm also guessing that the average Superb buyer chooses it for the extra space and comfort level they get over the Octavia

A lot of guesswork, I know, but putting two and two together, that probably means sales of a Superb vRS wouldn't be particularly high

V6 is a FAST luxury barge with a high tax bracket :thumbdown: The 2.0 TSi with a REMAP should be just as fast with a lighter engine much lower tax bracket and save a lot on fuel costs :thumbup:

I would have certainly been interested in a vRS as the superb has "more toys" but the up coming vRS Octavia (which is larger and has a better spec now) has put that into question for me.

No, not quiet correct. The MK1 Superb was based on the passat, but the MK2 is based on a stretched version of the Octavia MK2 chassis. The running gear is practically the same, and if you look at the engine bay of a MK2 Superb and an Octavia they are identical and if it were not for the Octavia wing shape you would be hard pressed to tell which car you were looking at.

Doesn't the Superb also share Audi platforms A3/A5, S3 puts out 260 BHP and uses Haldex doesn't it? Whether there'd be a market I don't know. If they want to give me an estate "mule" for long term testing I'd do it for free :-)

On a styling note... i was at the dealers yesterday, and saw a "OutDoor" Superb... oooo dear, fail.... the designers conversation must have went something like "Oo, Here's a normal Superb 4x4, let's stick some plasticky bits on, a few fake alloye-bits and call it "off road", yes, that'll do"... Same 18" Rims, no increase in ride height etc etc.

If that's Skoda's bash at "Styling" the Superb, please don't bother with a VRS inspired model!

Hi - you maybe want to edit your post from "260 Bhopal" to "260 bhp" (which is what I guess you meant?)

For the guys on this forum who live in India, Bhopal is more than an unfortunate typo........

Audi RS6? Merc E63AMG? - the merc is bigger than the Superb...

Don't some how see the Superb getting 400-500BHP though some would obviously like that.

I thought the Superb was based on the stretched Chinese Passat platform. The biggest issue I have with boosting my V6 Superb is not the chassis, that can easily (but not cheaply) be fixed. It is not the brakes as they seem pretty bullet proof. It is not the engine either as I know some R36 cars with 250Kw. It is the gearbox!! I want more torque at 1,800-3,500 but still same redline. You can increase Kw (BHP) by merely increasing revs but I want to increase torque and I fear the gearbox will not cope. If anyone knows better then I will make my own vRS as tax brackets, road tax etc. do not apply where I live. Oh, and it IS fast but not quite a barge. I tend to call things such as V8 Toyotas and Jeeps "barges".

Totally agree, as I have said in many posts " .......oh how I wish the V6 had the low down torque of a 170CR Diesel ............"

Cost would be too high for Superb buyers and the "marque" is not prestige enough for Audi/BMW/Merc owners at this level of specification.

My opinion of course :)

Does the superb not come with the same 3.6 and DSG box that the R36 had? The R36 wasn't slow, but is pretty rare.

The old MK1 Superb was based on the Passat the new MK2 Superb is based on the Octavia

An all new Škoda Superb (B6, Typ 3T) was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2008.[4]

Based on a stretched version of the latest A5 Octavia platform, the Volkswagen Group B6 PQ46, this new Superb is a five-door five-seatliftback saloon/sedan, with an innovative tailgate that can double as a regular separate saloon boot, and full liftback, known as 'Twin-Door'. Being based on the Octavia A5 platform, this latest Superb now utilises a transverse engine layout.

The sort of market we're talking about are the people who want:

i) Lots of comfort and luxury.

ii) Lots of space for carrying passengers.

iii) Adrenaline pumping, flying machine performance.

iv) Something considerably cheaper than existing cars that deliver this (e.g. Audi S6 Avant at £50k+).

There might be a small market for a vRS Superb, but not enough to allow production of a cost effective end-product. The end-product would be so expensive, it'd be cheaper buying a V6 Superb and taking it to a performance garage to tweak the suspension, engine and body, then popping on some vRS badges yourself :)

I recon the Outdoor looks really smart, theres one at my local dealer in Candy White. I'd have one! :)

I kinda agree with your comments, & I've already decided that owning one V6 with £460+ VED is enough for me!

My 2.0 TSi replaced a vRS 2.0 TSi Octy vRS & it's a much better car in many ways, including the space, comfort & overall ambience, but since 'er indoors purchased her own Octy vRS I'm reminded that that I'd like a little more performance....

A remap is the obvious answer, (plus suspension / brake modifications?) but I'd worry about re-mapping a car that's still got two years warranty left to run.

I too am curious to find out more about the forthcoming Ocy 3 vRS, especially re. the price & length of the options list.

The plan, (if we have one...) is to replace her VRS & my Mondeo wagon with a new Octy vRS Combi, if we feel that we want to revert to two cars, & if the wagon is a suitable estate to replace a Mk. 3 Mondeo.

If it's not, IOVHO of course, then we will have to rethink / look around at whatever else is on the market at the time.

We do realise that living with the Ford's high VED & 28 mpg is by far the cheapest option as long as we feel the need for an largish estate car in our lives.

It's now worth less than the annual depreciation of our other cars but offers all the toys / gizmos that you would expect from a Ghia X, has only covered 42K miles & is unlikely to do more than 4K miles PA for the forseeable future!

Thanks for all the comments received so far re. a Superb vRS, maybe I'm going to have to shop for a bigger spoiler sometime soon.....
