Storage solution for Combi

Featured Replies

One thing I've missed in my new Combi is rear storage space - my last car has big storage spaces under the boor floor. I've already filled the tyre space (tool kit, pump, warning triangle, bulb kit, etc) and needed more - I travel away a lot and have a standard 'help' kit in case of problems particularly with IT and other technology. Lives in the car.

But the side spaces of my Combi boot weren't very practical for lots of small items. Finally found what I need - Portabrace (well known in media-land for good cases) make solid cases which exactly fit the rear with a small adaptation.

The adaptation is to use a Dremel (other cutters are available...) to cut out a small section of the short side for the catch of the side spaces (if yours have covers) and then reverse the bit I cut out and hot glued it into place. Voila!

These cases, model PB-2400 are £63 from a supplier, but currently on Ebay they're sub £20 inc. delivery.

Nicely found. One question, slightly off-topic: What is the green cable visible in the lower left corner of the top picture?

Ah ha...not a cable but a metre long plastic covered stick with a black rubber ferule on each end. Came from a garden centre (plant support). I drive abroad a lot on my own for work. Most office and hotel car parks have an intercom by the car park barrier but they're on the lest for obvious reasons. This saves me getting out and walking round the car as I can lower the passenger window and press the button from the driver seat. Next adaptation is to put a small tea strainer on one end so I can drop coins into toll booths or pay at windows. Sounds mad but it works, saves time, and if it's raining I stay dry.

Apologies...posting from tablet which submitted this twice...Duh. Can drive in France, Germany, Poland, Italy... but can't operate a touchscreen...
